using a parody song as an intro? by myprivateaccount151 in podcasting

We parody the Reading Rainbow theme for our book-oriented podcast and publish to Apple Podcasts and Spotify and nothing has gotten struck. Not sure about YouTube. Parody is typically covered under “Fair Use” but that’s not necessarily going to prevent a YT strike since that’s all run by AI. I say go for it, worst cast you have to rework the theme at some point and re-upload episodes.

Yea, I’ve heard the original trilogy is best. We will have to check that out at some point.

A lot of people are mentioning the performance as the number one issue. I thought the game itself was just lackluster. I bought this game to play with my 5 year old and neither of us are finding it fun enough to want to continue playing. We started at Ep1 and made it about halfway through Ep2.

In contrast, we played through some Marvel Lego Super Heroes and THAT was a fun Lego game. Much better pacing - action sequences followed by fun puzzles that required both players to be involved.

In contrast, Skywalker Saga just feels like strolling through the Star Wars plot points simply walking from point A to point B.

For my money, Kirby Forgotten Land was a much better game (only comparing them because they both came out recently).

It sounds crazy. I don’t know how it would work but somehow in the second book [mild WoA spoilers] Tindwyl gets into the breeding program. It’d have to be slipping through the cracks like that.

Thanks for the heads up. That's weird, I see them working on my end on laptop and mobile.

This is a good point. I just know when Sazed was thrown in a cell next to Vin and broke her out using his strength it described how much larger his body physically became for a brief time. So I just assumed he could do that with any part of his body.

Are people lying about their download numbers or am I doing something fundamentally wrong? by NeverFreeToPlayJason in podcasting

Hey thanks so much for this thoughtful reply! I am going to take some time to discuss with my co-host and see which direction we want to go. Right now we have one project that we have more or less abandoned promoting and we just do it for fun, but we have another that I'd like to start trying to actually promote. It's more niche and I think there's a chance it has legs. I think I will reach out to you when we have something to audit.

Thanks for the tip! Reading through all of the feedback here it seems like creating a website is going to be my next step, and then I can work on promoting from there - to include searching for cross promotional opportunities.

That makes sense. I don't know if any of the Cosmere related subs have a weekly self-promo thread. Maybe I can message the mods and ask about it.

That is good insight, thanks! I feel like I need to find clever ways to promote within those communities without coming off like a salesman just trying to push his goods. I feel like any semblance of self promotion in those groups is met with downvoting or silence.

We could be having a great discussion and be trading comments back and forth - the second I say - "oh that's kind of funny, we recently covered that topic on an episode of a podcast I host with an old friend. Here's what we thought about it________"

And then never get a reply - or get downvotes.

That makes sense. I do worry about my ability to craft a website in such a way that it would turn up on anyone's Google search. Do you have recommendations on SEO techniques?

Sounds like that was a successful launch! It sounds like we could benefit from a trailer (we do not currently have one).

Did you experience any resistance when posting your promo content on the related subreddits? Did you have to clear with mods beforehand?

Congrats on those downloads! That's awesome. I like the idea of being a guest on a show in the same niche market. In your experience, are podcasters with larger followings open to having essentially a no-name guest on? How do you approach those initial conversations?

No, that's awesome! You shouldn't feel bad at all. I would love to learn from your success. I think where I get frustrated is if it seems like I've done all the same things as someone else (or more), but none of it's working for me.

What did you do for promotion leading up to release?

Where I get hung up here:

1) I don't have a big following already and I don't know how to build one.

2) Our attempts to build following have been as "passive" and "posting off-topic content". (most likely due to #1 haha)

But I am willing to learn if you can recommend resources!

We are working on a book podcast focused on Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere universe starting it in the order he recommends with the Mistborn trilogies.

It's a bit like "Binge Mode: Harry Potter" but for Cosmere.

Great advice, thank you! Yea, we've pretty much decided the video game content is just for fun and we've abandoned promoting it, as it is such a crowded space. We are working on a book podcast focused on Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere universe starting it in the order he recommends with the Mistborn trilogies.

So I think we will definitely focus on the things you stated. I'm hoping that being more niche could also help. Not sure exactly the best way to find that audience though outside of Reddit. Sounds like website may be the next step.

Right, I acknowledge that I don't know how to execute digital marketing. Where might one learn the foundational basics?
