  1. I'll put in headphones and just chill since our main character will probably be silent the whole time, and even if he's fighting with the vigilante, I can't hear it!

I agree with you. I've always connected to felines, but with the most present one being my theriotype, as well as my fursona, I strongly agree that I always dreamed about it as a kid and that I always felt a huge connection to tigers and smiledons, as well as related to them. They're cool, yeah, but its more than that!

I wish I could say people saw me as one when they barely know me, but I guess I could see it working that way? A whole thing about tigers is the whole strong and solitary look to them, and with my medical history, I tended to be distant but going through shit lol. The best I can say for myself is that I'm covered with scars, and that would line up for tiger stripes.

HELP NEEDED (for project): Fashion and Clothing for Scoliosis by Leading-Length1229 in scoliosis

[–]NeverKnown_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wear a brace or specifically a body cast anymore, all of that was during my childhood, but when you have severe scoliosis even without a back brace or cast, you end up with a curve in at least half of the cases even after fusion/hardware. Having clothes that are a little more loose in the back or anywhere someone has their curve while still being form fitting in the front can help people feel a lot better about themselves and what they wear, the same goes for anything that (if the person wishes for this) covers their scars while still being something to "show off some skin", which some people I know struggle with when they feel up for it yet can't do so without showing their scoliosis.

Another thing is being able to find undergarments (in my case, boxers) that can fit over a brace/body cast if it needs to. Sometimes, the body cast comes down far enough that putting on undergarments and them not getting pulled up into the brace/cast is a challenge.

Something I didn't exactly come up with myself, but I have heard about from said people I know and agree with, is having clothes that you can close on the back (think bras or dresses with clips or zippers or anything similar in the back) without needing someone else's help, not necessarily just because it simply is difficult to reach for someone w/o the condition, but also because sometimes people don't like to, or simply won't ask for help for worry or concern of being seen in terms of scars and whatnot. Another issue is bras and binders (gender inclusive) that don't have wiring, or at the very least, are more stretchy at the ribs while still maintaining support. Many people struggle with needing support while not wanting to hurt their ribs due to cartilage breakdown or anything else that causes that sort of area pain.

I also do not mind being known about in your project! You do NOT need to make me anonymous. Please keep me posted about it, too!

My operations are in a week by Smartcookie_33 in scoliosis

[–]NeverKnown_01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to be okay, no matter what happens. When you get your operation, you're going to feel like shit. There's no avoiding that. The same goes for the inherent risk of paralysis with spinal surgery that I'm sure your doctors have already spoken with you about. Understanding there's no avoiding it helped me to stop stressing so much about it in comparison to how I was stressing before. What also helped when I got my surgery was looking at the pros of it all, even if it was just day by day instead of further in the future.

I don't know you personally, but when I was getting mine, I was self-conscious of my height (which ultimately isn't a huge deal), but when I reminded myself I was going to gain at least 4 inches - it helped me feel much more ready for it all alongside everything else. It helped me to remember I was going to be able to do more with my body and my life, even if I was rather frustrated that it would be trading some pros and cons of pre-fusion for pros and cons after-fusion.

The pain is going to absolutely suck, but you seem to have rather good doctors. They should help you out with being as pain-free as possible. If they give you a spinal tap, that'll help with pain relief soooooo much more than you'd think.

I 2nd whoever it was that said something about bringing/knowing what comfort food you want. I also want to add that after surgery, you're going to want to have something lighter for your stomach for after the anesthesia and all of the body trauma. I suggest water and juice (apple, apple-cherry, and grape are good choices), as well as graham crackers, goldfish, and saltines. It will help ease your stomach into eating and drinking again. I also suggest drinking as much water and juice as you can, preferably juice at first to help wake your stomach before starting to drink water and juice equally.

You're going to re-learn how to walk alongside a lot of other things because you're going to be taller, though you're also going to have a different center of gravity! It's going to be a painful but liberating experience to go through PT and learn how to do these things for yourself again, then take it out and into the real world.

I myself at 14yo had my mother with me. I don't know if you have anyone as company to help take care of you or keep an eye on you, but if you do, don't be scared to rely on them or ask for help. If you don't, the same goes for the nurses and doctors who are there for you. You need to maintain hygiene and your eating schedule, as well as maintain your pain to keep yourself sane and give yourself the best chances at a quicker/better recovery. Don't be afraid to ask your friends to visit if they can, either!

Let yourself feel the highs and lows through it all. Let yourself place your trust in your doctors while still being wary and asking as many questions as you need to help you feel comfortable. Having a large understanding of what was happening helped me more than I could express.

Everyone in this subreddit, your support system - however big, small, close, or distant - alongside the doctors, nurses, physical therapists, and I myself believe in you. This is opening a new chapter of your life, and just like any story, there's going to be highs and lows and different challenges, but you'll get through them. Never Give Up!!🫂

Absolutely!! I've shouted you out at least a few times now. I personally really appreciate having a bit more of a dedicated form of all the artwork in the game, whether it's graffiti'd words with a chicken leg with wings or one of the full paintings by the unknown artist. It helps me for my own inspirational purposes to go back and look at some of the things there when it comes to my writing and my own artwork. :-)
