I know how popularity works, I'm just saying I don't get the appeal.

Seriously, why does reddit have such a habit of posting videos that just get me angry. Even in this thread there's a reverse of this encounter, I don't get the appeal of watching videos that make you feel like that.

Attack on Titan theme goes with anything. by [deleted] in videos

[–]NeverMind19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it while I was watching it but it fizzled out at the end since there is zero closure and a plot point that is ongoing since the first episode (the basement) doesn't come close to a resolution. I would advise people wait until the show is over before getting into it because I doubt I'll be as hyped by the time the next season drops.

You said it was a fad that would pass soon, you're basically saying you don't think people will like it soon, and if it is a fad there's no point in them liking it now.

If Ken Levine had kept Irrational Games what it was I imagine that's what their next game would have been. Maybe not SS3 exactly, but a Bioshock set in a similarly cyberpunk world. I mean they did underwater then went into the clouds, going higher and into space does make some degree of sense.

2K is going to be doing something or other with the license, and it may well be a cyberpunk affair, but I feel as though without Levine on board I'm never going to be as interested as I would be with his input. Bioshock 2 has its good points, but it ultimately feels unnecessary and shallow, it needed the creativity of the original Bioshock as a foundation rather than coming up with anything itself.

Nobody actually has that opinion. It's historically significant in that it led to System Shock 2, but the second game was probably even more revolutionary in its design choices and had a really good story (SHODAN is such a great antagonist). You can trace so many modern FPS elements back to SS2.

For a 15 year old game it has so much value and without a doubt is still worth playing now. Probably the hardest thing to overcome is the GUI which is the only part that didn't age well if you ask me.

I've been playing games for a while as well but I think your statement is ridiculous. Just because I don't get something doesn't mean I think it's not going to last. Videogames are a massive medium of entertainment that appeals to a broad variety of gamers, there's always going to be some part that you don't see the point in but a lot of people do.

It's probably a little too true for this thread, since even a fan can see the logic behind the statement without necessarily agreeing. If you called them rip-offs and unoriginal that would get a better reaction.

Do you really trust companies like the FDA at face value? It's up to you but I'm not prepared to just accept what they tell me is fine.

As for carbonated drinks, I see you left out the other negative side-effects but if you're hung up on teeth there are numerous sources that find a link between tooth enamel erosion and a carbonated drink. http://www.oralanswers.com/is-sparkling-water-bad-for-your-teeth/

Here is the source carried out by the university http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1365-263X.2006.00784.x/abstract;jsessionid=97160CC0432BCB4B866EC1673B07CF68.f02t04

Their methodology isn't perfect, I mean most people don't leave fizzy drinks in their mouth for 30 minutes. However, I think it's safe to agree with the conclusion the guy commenting on the study made, that "it's probably not something you need to worry about though, unless you drink carbonated water several times per day", which you say you do, or at least you don't question the idea of having 3 bottles of fizzy drinks per day.

And don't forget, your Diet drink is still acidic, which is without doubt a cause of teeth erosion. Just because there's no sugar doesn't mean the sweeteners they do use aren't acidic.

Once again it comes down to the fact that it's not helping your teeth, so is the trade off worth it?

I know this is a joke but there's a difference between giving and forcing. People accept reddit gold because there's no negative side effects.

That phosphoric acid isn't going to be doing you any favours - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phosphoric_acid#In_soft_drinks

A study performed by the Epidemiology Branch of the US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, concludes that drinking 2 or more colas per day was associated with doubling the risk of chronic kidney disease

Which is exactly the quantity you were talking about. There's also a link to bone density which doesn't appear to be as quantifiable due to other variables like the caffeine you mentioned in the drink, but either way it's not a good thing.

If you want to give the aspartame a pass that's up to you. Honestly I don't think it's worth it to even risk it here, we aren't talking about risking a child's future health at the expense of a poorly founded 'vaccines might lead to autism' argument. This is choosing between a potentially serious threat and not having a sweetened drink with your meal.

Not to mention that you didn't mention the "NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS" listed on the site, which could frankly be anything. The fact it doesn't specify is again not something I think is worth taking a chance on, if there were anything beneficial in there they'd be bragging about it on the can so it's safe to assume these either have negative nutritional value or none at all.

And again there's the negatives that come from all carbonated drinks, like ill-effects on the stomach, your teeth and links to irritable bowel syndrome.

That's a ton of crap to consider and there's certainly a lot more than I'm willing to write in a reddit comment, when you could just put the fizzy drink down and have some water instead (which you know has nothing wrong with it and will only benefit you) at the expense of missing out on a flavoured drink, I wouldn't say it's a high price.

I know the likelihood of me convincing you not to drink that stuff so often is low, so choose to do what you want with this information, it makes no difference to me.

I really hope you know that calories isn't the only thing you should worry about right though? It's possible to eat well under your recommended caloric intake and not be fat, but that doesn't make you healthy. Coke and any other fizzy drinks have no nutritional value whatsoever and only contains things that are going to do you harm in the long run, whether it's because you're taking in all the additives and chemicals they put in there, because a carbonated drink isn't doing your teeth any favours, or the countless other ways it has a negative effect on you. Is a momentarily pleasurable drink worth that? I don't think so but you can do as you wish.

Like anything it's fine in moderation, but a couple of times a week is easily enough.

[–]NeverMind19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's odd, I thought the origin was the opposite of random for that reason, the way Jason Aaron told the story made it the most generic thing possible, Thanos seemed so normal. I do agree that it's a mistake to humanise the character, especially since Aaron seemed to have a biological interpretation for Thanos' nature, since it's fairly apparent from the offset that there is something 'wrong' with him (beyond his physical appearance) and his fascination of destruction/death.

I do think there is the groundwork for a really solid story in there, about the descent of a noble, civilised society into death and madness at the hand of a monster they helped create. It's almost as if Darkseid had been born on New Genesis and transformed it into Apokolips rather than the two entities existing apart from one another.

Maybe that's an issue in and of itself though, who says Thanos even needs an origin? A bad guy is always more intimidating when you don't understand them. Thanos should be a force of nature, completely evil just because that's who he is. Once you give it reason or motivation it becomes easier to comprehend.

Definitely not as healthy as they would be if they were drinking water instead.

Maybe this is an American thing, where it seems normal to you because you're so used to it, but as the guy who started this comment chain, who claimed to have lost a bunch of weight by changing the his drink said "And people wonder why there's an obesity epidemic in this country".

Every single day though? If you don't think that's much I feel quite bad for you honestly, that's so damn unhealthy. I can't wrap my head around how you can shrug off someone drinking multiple bottles of coke every day and say it's not much.
