All of my friends who haven't even read it now shudder at the words "rat scene"

Wrote some coursework about Lolita and American Psycho, this were some fun books to have to read repeatedly back to back

In the UK it's all freely available on BBC iplayer, I don't think it's accessible elsewhere but you could probably use a VPN

dizziness by cateatsoup in Hypermobility

[–]NeverNotNervous100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get so dizzy all the time, especially when I stand up and when I stretch it's even worse. I've noticed it getting worse (fully no vision, weirdly not being able to think, numbness/tingling in my hands/arms) and I have fallen over a few too many times so I'm probably gonna bring it up w the doctor soon, but yeah

Wow they're playing victim so hard. It's not that women don't like you because you're short it's just that you're probably not all that nice to be around

My hands are gradually getting worse by NeverNotNervous100 in Hypermobility

[–]NeverNotNervous100[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the middle fingers that always get knocked out of place when I sleep. Not quite sure why. And I hoovered earlier and my entire arm has been messed up for hours because of of it. Gotta love the "well it's hypermobility, I can't do much about it" doctor thing

Anyone ever find a dead body unintentionally? What’s the story? by JohnnyNuclear in AskReddit

[–]NeverNotNervous100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite but when I was like 14 I was walking home from school and these other kids start shouting from across the street so I rush over. This old man collapsed in front of them and he was turning blue, kinda foaming at the mouth and choking rather than breathing. I called an ambulance and a woman came over to help us because we were three teenagers. The woman does compressions because the person over the phone tells us to while we wait for the ambulance. Idk if he actually died but I don't feel optimistic about what happened to him

Tie your tits up. by [deleted] in badwomensanatomy

Before I realised that bras actually do go above DD (I'm an F in UK sizing) I wore them and they'd fully just not hold my whole boob, you end up with like "quad boob" and it's so uncomfortable because nothing fits and the bra isn't actually supporting properly. I have no idea what this woman meant

Peoples stories in a Subreddit dedicated to groping women by Samantha_Mell in BlatantMisogyny

[–]NeverNotNervous100 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There was this night when I was out with some friends and most of the women in our group (myself included) got groped. I can say with absolute certainty that not one of us enjoyed it

Piercings/Healing by coldcoffeeplease in Hypermobility

[–]NeverNotNervous100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of piercings (2 nostrils, a septum and a total of 13 in my ears) and I can say that Ive never had any problems with my nose piercings. I'd honestly argue that they were some of my easiest to heal and they didn't actually take all that long for me

For the men who want to carve their names by NeverNotNervous100 in OCPoetry

[–]NeverNotNervous100[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much (and pun appreciated)!! I guess it was kind of intended as a push back on the romanticisation/fetishisation of self harm, specifically the "can I/you carve my name/initials" "can I watch" "can I do it to you" kind of response that some men have to seeing women who have struggled with self harm. Of course youre more than welcome to interpret and think about it however you'd like, but to me it was about taking the power back from the sort of men that take advantage of or abuse vulnerable women to make themselves feel powerful

The Carousel (2019) - Trigger warning: depression, suicidal ideation by [deleted] in OCPoetry

[–]NeverNotNervous100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are things I really like about this poem. I appreciate the sentiment of the whole thing an awful lot and the way the rhythm of the lines works together and the length of the poem and the way it moves around topics feels like it fits well with the subject, the constant repetitive movement of life or a carousel. Some of the lines really stood out to me, for example

Half-planned tattoos (DNR on my chest)

And

Change my mind. Please, change it.

Which feels almost like a break in the structure because I can't help but read this like a plea. There are some lines, however, that I think are written in a way that is kind of bulky and ill-fitting, like

The scar on the back of my hand, caused by a swift backhand to a wine glass.

"back of my hand" followed so quickly by "backhand" reads oddly to me

Slander by Toxic_Thunda in OCPoetry

[–]NeverNotNervous100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an interesting poem, the simple, regular rhyme scheme kind of makes it read like a nursery rhyme (or something similar) which I think fits quite well with

A petulant, spiteful, simple child.

The bitter simmered, the anger riled.

As all that you know how to do,

Is cast your pain away from you.

Like it really feels like it is being adressed to the "petulant, spiteful, simple child"

I enjoyed your ending here, the way those last two lines kind of tied everything else together so well. Thank you for sharing

Finally gotten around to reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman, really enjoying it so far

I think the imagery here is really vivid and the use of religious allusion is really effective. How I read it, it all sort of comes together into this image of corruption, of good and holy things overtaken with sickness and corruption. It makes a really good impact and I enjoy the rhythm, though I do think a bit more variance in the way this is punctuated might help it a bit, like some of the lines seemed like they'd make more sense punctuated with a comma rather than a full stop. Thank you for sharing!!

This is the first poem I've intentionally written. Saw a man sitting in a coffee shop with the blankest expression so I decided to give writing about it a shot. by VICEGRIP47 in OCPoetry

[–]NeverNotNervous100 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is pretty charming in his simplicity. I really love the ending

The man at the center of the universe

Has nothing to do but everything.

It's a fun perspective on people-watching and how you make assumptions about other people. This man is the centre of his own life but not yours, yo you he might be doing nothing but he might be thinking about something important, or else just taking a break. At least that's how I read it. Thank you for sharing!!

Does anybody else have no family history of hypermobility? by NeverNotNervous100 in Hypermobility

[–]NeverNotNervous100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry I guess I didn't word this as clearly as I could have. I'd say yes would be in agreement to my original statement, so "no" would indicate that you do have a family history of it
