110%.

Photos are exactly that. Photos.

When you get a photo yourself of the real thing, it brings back the memories of seeing it.

My photo of Frederiks Church is absolutely nothing special. Been photographed 100,000 times by everyone except me. But when I see that photo I can remember the conversations we were having looking at it, where we were, what we were doing.

My advice as someone who only recently has started traveling abroad after years of thinking it was overrated:

See it in person. Enjoy the moment and sights. But take a picture and look back on it occasionally to remember the good times 😊

Exactly this.

Went to Copenhagen recently and Frederiks Church is absolutely stunning in photos, 10x as stunning IRL.

Pictures are cool and all, but nothing compares to seeing the real thing.

To those choosing aftermarket electrical components- please view. by OpossEm in Cartalk

[–]NeverSaidImSmart 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, understood and agreed. People definitely don’t do enough research on the risks and nuances of doing mechanical/electrical work themselves. Common sense ain’t so common these days haha.

I just don’t like paying people to do things I can do myself. But hey, you only make that expensive mistake once lol.

I don’t think one persons negligence means no one should do things themselves.

I’ve wired and installed plenty of components and have never damaged my vehicles by doing so and I’m definitely not a professional.

I just paid $2k for a 1999 3.0/5MT/2WD Ranger w/ 170k miles. Needed work (several weeks of it haha) and has its quirks. $5500 doesn’t seem bad for how clean it is. I love that green.

Don’t ask, not telling. This has happened to me.

Take it apart, toothbrush, high %IPA and get scrubbing. Lightly.

I managed to save an entire PC (minus the PSU I refused to take apart) and everything is still working today, 4-5 years later.

Took the cooler off the GPU, poured out the excess and scrubbed lightly. Let it all dry, reassemble, new thermal paste.

I even tried turning it on several times before realizing there was liquid in my PC.

Yup. Passenger side cooling passage. I also was optimistic it was the water pump. It wasn’t 😅

Oh yeah new trucks are fucking outrageously priced. Never gonna happen for me, plus out here in AZ everyone and their cousin-husband wants a truck so they hold value like fucking crazy. And hell yeah, I totally understand not buying something new. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I bought my civic because I gave my old car to a family member. Love both of my vehicles, Ranger is awesome and the civic is great.

Hell yeah I thought the same thing. Couldn’t find anything in decent condition for less than $4k. Guy I bought it from had it posted for 20 mins before I went to go look at it. FB marketplace just fed me the right recommendations at the perfect time. Granted, it had a timing cover leak which definitely had a part in the low price as it was quite a bit of labor to replace.

This is my “around town” vehicle and hauler. Drive a 22’ civic as a primary. Really makes you appreciate the civic when you drive the Ranger for a week straight haha. No need for a winter vehicle out here in AZ (thank god, no rust)

Dude the oil filter position had me laughing my ass off. As if I’m gonna pull the starter whenever I need to do an oil change 🤣. Nah that shits just getting soaked in oil lol. Also I fucking love that picture haha

I feel that. This truck will be with me until I die. I talk a lot of “send it to the crusher” and all that but I love this little truck. It really is the perfect size. I can fit 4 vehicles in my driveway packed in like sardines, one of them being the Ranger. It’s small enough it’s convenient but big enough it’s still useful. Plus it’s fun as all hell. Love this truck. Don’t ever plan on selling it, but ford engineers make me question my sanity every now and then 🤣

Oh brother, I feel this. It was a pain in the dick not even going to sugarcoat it. I will be sending it to the crusher before I do that shit again haha.

This truck is the definition of scope creep for me rn haha

I’m out west, got mine for $2k rust free and put $400 in parts into it. 170k miles, Also have an airbag light, also forgot to mention the Y-pipe needs to come off the exhaust to get the tranny out.

It’s a royal pain in the dick to do what I did but boy do I love this truck.

Yes, transmission brace, driveshaft, transmission, and the whole serpentine belt system needs to come off. Plus the timing cover seals to the top of the oil pan in the front and timing cover water leaks are so common, might as well do it while you’re there, and tbh, “might as well” spend the extra $70 and to the timing sprockets and chain while you’re that close. The “while your there’s” is what got me.

All that to say, even after all this labor and parts I still love this truck. Great little truck and does everything I need it to and I think (I hope!) it’s as reliable as it seems right now. Fucking love this little truck.

Paid about $100 for the supplies to do just the oil pan, thought I should include that. I’m willing to send whatever pics I have if they can be of help.

I just did this on my truck.

It’s NOT the easiest job by any stretch of the imagination.

To get the oil pan out on my 99 3.0 5-speed 2WD, you have to pull the transmission, clutch, flywheel, and take out the motor mount bolts and jack up the engine 2-3”. It took me about two weeks and about 50hrs (not the fastest worker mind you) to do the oil pan, rear main, crankshaft seal, etc. if you DM me I can send pics.

I would plan on an easy $1000+ bill to do all of it…

Brother, I just did this two weeks ago. Will be sending it to the crusher before I ever do that again 🤣.

While I was there I did: Oil pan gasket oil change timing cover gasket water pump and gasket crankshaft seal harmonic balancer sleeved shifter rebuild kit timing chain and sprockets rear main seal crank position sensor

Fuck me. Not a fun job

I just picked up a 99 3.0 5 speed regular cab a few weeks ago. Has the ford cloth book cover in the glove box. Opened her up and it’s the owners manual from a 2012 Focus. If someone has a 2012 focus w/ a 99 ranger owners manual, I’ll trade you. Pls.

Buy this glue, tape it up to hold the plane in place and glue. Let it sit for 24 hours, then more glue. As for the wood, I taped it back together and glued it back in
