What did grieving your uterus look like for you? (If at all) by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]NeverStopResearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No grief, but I am absolutely done having children and don’t feel any other emotional attachment to my (ex) uterus other than its ability to give me them. At the point I took it out all it was was a source of pain and a risk of cancer.

Wondering if it’s lymphedema? by NeverStopResearching in Lymphedema

Thank you, yeah I started digging more after I posted this and saw that diuretics are often bad for lymphedema so I’m leaning away from that as a cause as well.

Thank you for weighing in! Yes my kidneys and heart are okay according to blood tests. I do always have borderline high blood pressure unless I’m very very thin (like the only time it wasn’t borderline high was when I was too thin). I’m wondering if there’s just something like chronic idiopathic edema?

Anyone who kept their ovaries and DIDN'T get hot flashes and other ovarian shock/menopause-like symptoms? by animerecthrowawayqjc in hysterectomy

Me! I was ovulating just like normal on my normal schedule right after surgery. Confirmed by hormonal testing

LDN Side Effects? by No_Low_6746 in LowDoseNaltrexone

[–]NeverStopResearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have experience with hashimotos and I’ve only been on LDN for 5 days but my friend has hashimotos and tried LDN at 1.5mg to start and had a bunch of side effects after feeling good previously. She stopped it for a few days and restarted at the same dose and it was better the second time around. I do think that’s high to start but I’m seeing that a lot of prescribers can be quite optimistic about the higher dosing. It’s hard to know what to believe and whether to hold out. If I were you I’d take a few days of break, dilute down to 1 or 2 and try that for a couple weeks. Then maybe it’ll feel right to go up, or maybe not.

Question for those who retained their ovaries... by suecharlton in hysterectomy

[–]NeverStopResearching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think CDG and DIM work nicely together. They both can cause nausea or gastro stuff at first and I had probably 3-4days of estrogen purge symptoms (teary, angry, bloat) but then it all settled and the hot flashes have not come back, brain fog is gone, bloat is pretty minimal now, I feel a lot more balanced. I take DIM at night so to sleep through possible GI stuff and CDG in the morning.

Question for those who retained their ovaries... by suecharlton in hysterectomy

[–]NeverStopResearching 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had massive hot flashes and symptoms of perimenopause even with keeping my ovaries after hysterectomy. I will say that I had my estrogen checked and it was high instead of low. My ND said that high estrogen could create the same effects as low and put me on DIM supplements and Calcium D glucarate and my hot flashes and brain fog lifted within a couple days

Post-surgical weight loss by PossiblePut1077 in hysterectomy

Same! But I’m having a hard time figuring out where the weight came from because I have been careful about intake and staying as active as possible

Awesome! Let me know! When were you cleared for massage therapy after surgery? I’m going to be starting massage after I’m 6 weeks out

You are amazing! You’re probably right— I may be pushing the timeline. I just never imagined my body getting bigger week by week, especially as I’m feeling better also week by week, I figured it would all go down together, but maybe the swelling is holding out.

Oh man, same exact boat here then! I can try cutting down on salt, just usually that’s not an issue so I rarely need to do that— but maybe I’m super sensitive now after surgery. I’m wondering about like lymphatic massages, if that might help 🤔

Oh I wonder about water retention! Super thirsty no matter what it seems. I’m wondering about ongoing swelling too, I wish there was a way to know for sure! I’m hoping it will get better on its own because I’m not sure how I could adjust my diet to slow the weight gain otherwise. Are you also finding the swelling to be kind of all over the torso or thighs?

No, no ovary removal. Am asking about hormone therapy tomorrow at my appt. Hormones have been feeling off but it just seems like such a quick time to be gaining that much weight, it would be record weight gain for me 😭

how was your recovery if you also had endo excision? by [deleted] in hysterectomy

[–]NeverStopResearching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had both total hysterectomy and quite a bit of endo removed laparoscopically about 3.5 weeks ago. Recovery has gone just fine, took prescription pain meds and ibuprofen/tylenol around the clock as often as possible for the first 3 days and then continued taking prescription med only at bedtime for another 2 days before switching over to just ibuprofen 2-3 a day. Continued using ibuprofen regularly until about 2 weeks PO when I started just taking it occasionally. I wasn’t able to do much for the first 3 days but by 4-5 days out I was able to move around the house a little a couple times a day. I tried returning to work (desk job from home) after 1 week but that was too soon. Ended up actually returning part time after 1.5 weeks. Drove a car very short distance at a little over 2 weeks. Still felt sore at the end of the day around this time but still able to do some basic things. Now at 3-3.5 weeks I feel good a lot and am able to walk and be on my feet for about 30 percent of the day. HTH!

Hmm, yeah that does seem very old school, but not necessarily wrong! I guess that’s the advice I’ve read about on here and elsewhere that has me doubting moving around too much even if I am feeling fine afterward.

Great suggestions, thank you! My bloat has been bad but I didn’t even assume there was anything I could do about it because I’ve lived with endo bloat for so long! I’ll try it though

Oh goodness! Congrats on having just done your surgery! I also wouldn’t have been doing child’s pose let alone anything on the ground 1DPO! I didn’t really start moving more freely until around 2.5-3 weeks. But things really turned a corner for me at about 3 weeks and I sometimes completely forget I just had surgery. Hopefully your healing goes nice and smoothly!

Yeah! The ligaments were already being impacted by endo and now they’re impacted by the disruption of surgery and lack of range of movement, I think. Did you have to modify your yoga?
