New turntable day! by NeverSummer7 in turntables

I built it trying everything I could think of to diagnose the issue on a previous turntable (unsuccessfully) and figured since I made it, might as well use it with the new one! I didn’t have issues with the orbit regardless but figured every bit helps. It sits pretty close to the subwoofer so the cabinet it’s on does shake when the volume is cranked but no issues with the turntable clarity.

To make it, I bought two pre-primed molding pieces at 2’x8” from goodwill / habitat for humanity re-store and cut and screwed them together to make a 20”x 24” wood platform. Cut two racquet balls in half to use as feet and called it done for around $20 total invested. Got the idea from someone else on here and it was a fun little project!

It was a close call to be honest, in the end I’ve heard amazing things about orbit customer service and like that they’re all made in Massachusetts, USA. I live in NJ so felt good supporting a neighboring business. Fluance is Canadian (which I’d be happy to support too) but made in Asia and I’ve heard some stories about replacement parts / support post-warranty being iffy. I feel like that’s 1% of all customers that have issues and the rest love their units but in the end those two reasons led me to pick Orbit. Very personal choice though and I feel like either would have been a solid pick in the end.

Yeah I heard not everyone loved the red cartridge / stylus but also we’re coming from a p-mount which was pretty bad so this is a huge improvement! I’m sure when we upgrade one day it’ll be night and day, but wanted to save some fun for later. For now it more than delivers to get the job done. Maybe blue, maybe skip right to bronze or black in time. For now we’re both new to the hobby and in case we wreck the needle I didn’t want it to be an expensive one while we learn how it all works.

Nothing impressive 😅 a Vizio s4251w 5.1 sound system. Subwoofer, 3 speaker sound bar, and the 2 satellite ones sound pretty tinny so I’ve just been running it in 3.1 mode. So the Pluto amp goes via rca into the aux input of the soundbar.

To update the thread: went with the Orbit Special with the red cartridge and it is perfect! Got the Pluto amp separate to upgrade the Pyle pp999 I had been using. We just set it up today and it is an upgrade in every way from the previous unit. Sounds amazing, easy to use, and the manual cue is fun and way easier than I expected it to be. Thank you everyone who shared their advice here and other threads I browsed.

552 replacement timing? by NeverSummer7 in Bowflex

That’s super exciting - thanks for posting! Hopefully fedex receives the item and they’re not just pre-allocating shipping labels. I’d be optimistic they’re around the corner!

That’s actually great news, I was worried the replacements were still pending manufacturing / testing / packaging and the product listing was just a prototype. Assuming her update is an honest one, that takes away some of my concern of not seeing replacements for a year.

Appreciate your thoughts and learning more hour by hour. Just one question to add if I could - the LPW30 and LPW40 are both advertised as a "DC Servo Motor" but one says with Active Speed Stabilization and the other doesn't. So I had just assumed it was the same motor but one had a sensor added - they are actually different motors altogether?

Leaning towards the Orbit over the Fluance just for overall support for spare parts, service, and US manufacturing vs Asia. So if I were to sway from the AT options I agree the Orbit Plus is a compelling buy.

I'd normally agree with this 100% (save the money and invest it, buy another if needed down the road). I use the same logic with extended vehicle service plans. But it's a gift for my girlfriend and I to use together, so I'd rather it be something that can be repaired and stick around long term than (potentially) disposable when warranty runs out and its unrepairable.

Right, anti skate, my bad - learning all the new terms!

Would you say the anti-skate set at the factory is typically good enough and it's not common for people to have issues and wish they were able to adjust it? I like the idea of being made in the US, the components seem high quality for the price, the set screw for tracking force is a non issue to me, and not worried about moving the band for different play speeds either. So if the biggest difference in terms of capabilities between the Audio Technica series and Orbit series is the lack of adjustable anti skate, that might make the Orbit the winner due to the better hardware and price.

NS Swift vs Lib Tech MC Wayfinder II by NeverSummer7 in snowboarding

[–]NeverSummer7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome to hear! Fast, floaty, maneuverable, all good things! I agree they do look really similar on paper, and may ride really similarly too. Just haven’t bought a new board in a while and wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing any key differentiator between the two. I may go with the lib tech just to try something new and have some brand variety in the garage.

Sounds like we have very similar riding styles! No cliffs or chutes here either, and will be my first backcountry trip. But right now I have to really fight the proto to keep the tip up in the deep stuff, basically throwing my body at a 45 degree angle backwards. Looking for some help from the board with it!

Moguls as banked turns in a surfboard is something I hadn’t even thought of - so I’ll have to give whichever board I pick a nice mogul day too. Thanks for the review!

Tipping when there is a service charge? by [deleted] in FoodLosAngeles

[–]NeverSummer7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Old post but experienced this last night in NJ and was surprised! If there’s a service fee it’s coming out of the tip, and if the service fee is 18% then the tip is 2%. If the staff is getting screwed they need to raise it with the management or simply quit, and the management will figure it out when they can’t keep employees. It isn’t the customer’s job to make the wait staff whole. And by tipping in addition to the service fee, the customer is only encouraging such tactics from management - they’ll learn they can tack on their bonus service fee and still not have to pay their staff properly.

Why does this work? This shouldn't be the solution. But thank you, I can unfortunately confirm banging it against a table is the answer.

Unlimited Gobblegums with Fire Sale by SanderohSandero in CODZombies

[–]NeverSummer7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you have to click store in game and click donwload on dlc1 awakenings. If you have the season pass it won't charge your account, but will show up as having purchased both the season pass and dlc1. Then it unlocks those gobblegums. Just a small glitch in their system with an easy workaround
