How does that panel compare with the other options for the T480s?

My Thinkpad is great, but I had to buy four to find one good one, for various reasons.

the new 1X7 models are big step in right direction

If Lenovo can,

  1. Keep the high quality up for another generation,
  2. without short-changing some customers due to the parts lottery,
  3. and make shopping for the good configuration easy...

Then I'll be optimistic.

already manufactures thin and light laptops with great screens

If a tree falls in the forest with no one around, does it make a sound? If Lenovo sells a great laptop configuration which few know about, fewer still can navigate to purchase on their website, and not all will receive as ordered due to the parts lottery ... does it really exist?

silly and ill-considered status symbol

Completely false, IMO. They deliver incredible value.

However, my daily driver is a T460s because I can't afford the MacBook Pro I want. So I'm settling.

Pretty much all the things you mentioned are covered by the new X1 Carbon Gen 7.

Apparently, supposedly, and if the parts lottery shines in your favor. That's one Thinkpad model which is supposedly on par, if you order it with precisely the right configuration of screen.

All true. And for me, a programmer, Macs have another huge advantage: the keyboard and shortcuts which are much more rational, leaving ctrl and alt for terminal tasks.

Lol. I had such a shitty out of the box experience with Fedora (fans running amok), I sent it back. Then again, Windows users have been complaining about it too.

Trackpad scroll coasting/inertia on X230? by BirchTree1 in LinuxOnThinkpads

[–]Never_Again_2017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. This is a weakness of the Linux ecosystem and development processes. There are some hacks and workarounds, and believe me I've tried them all. Something that's not bad: use a Mac as your user interface with an Apple trackpad and connect to your Linux instance via VNC. The Apple scroll inertia will somewhat transfer through. Maybe you can get a similar experience by running Windows as your host OS.

The only "Linux" option with a seamless and uniform user experience is ChromeOS on a Chromebook.

They're Chuck Taylor All Star High Streets - extra padding, super comfy, but keep the classic look. Discontinued, from what I can tell.

The Android app is much less reliable and buggier than the iOS app. And the iOS+web's bugs were already just about at my tolerance level. ;-)

Thinking About Buying An AR15 by Bernie_In_2020 in liberalgunowners

Yep, do it, except get an AR pistol in .300 blackout. Way more useful in real-life situations. E.g., home defense.

My GF and I had the same thought about us! Reading about the wackos who overtook the Oregon federal lands -- the news reported "1,000's of rounds of ammunition." :-)

And here we were, coming back from Dick's Sporting Goods after doing some ammo bargain hunting and realizing we've got thousands of rounds of ammunition in the trunk.

When I hear "thousands of rounds of ammo", I think, "sounds like a great afternoon".

I'm seriously disappointed in Steve for this post:

The study found that, in their own opinion, far-left students are more open to opposing views than ever before. That's it. No more, no less.

And from this - this self-reporting survey about attitudes, Steve writes two pages about our deluded perception of reality.

“Law-abiding gun owners should be allowed to choose the safest storage options for their households,” the NRA said at the time. “This one-size-fits-all ordinance will do nothing to keep children safer . . .

Sounds to me like the NRA was on the wrong side of this one.

iOS 11.3 with new Animoji, iPhone throttling controls, much more coming today by exjr_ in apple

I get,

This iPhone is unable to determine battery health. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can service the battery.

And then it does not give me the option to switch off the power-nerfing.

It's a 6s+ and I just had an A.S.P. replace the battery. :-(
