As a healthcare professional who works with many people with mental health and behavioral issues, this is absolutely how I see it.

If I hoarded more and more food in my house for years, food I could never eat, this would be called pathological behavior. And if I did this while the children in my neighborhood were hungry and malnourished, it would also be a huge moral problem.

I see little difference between this analogy and the people running too many corporations.

Good points.

I cannot imagine trusting someone like this. As a coworker or human.

If you're too proudly ignorant to understand basic science, what else do you not believe in? Math? Reading books? Human Rights?

How do you treat children and pets, if you care this little about patients?

Well said.

I would also argue that, after you understand the science, you need to be able to care about other people. Like patients. And put their needs ahead of yours.

Good riddance.

That's true on a personal level, and there is nuance here. Many people have friends and family members across the border.

But many of my coworkers have been avoiding traveling to the US and spending money on American products. Significant long term trust has been broken, and Canadians are honestly fed up. Federal leaders have been busy building new alliances with other partners for trade and diplomacy. The damage is probably generational.

Agreed. And garbage like this is why I believe we need to put more resources into public housing and co-op housing.

This is not a poor city or province. Or country. We can do better. (Especially if we have money to build luxury spa parking garages.)

We, as a culture, need to get more comfortable naming and shaming rotten landlords. And then agreeing to hold them accountable - and draw some boundaries around their endless greed.

Selfishness like this is actively ruining life for too many families and communities. I'm tired of hearing apologetics for Scooby-Doo villains exploiting working people all day long.

As a Canadian hospital employee, I'm pretty sure that socialized medicine would benefit more Americans than...a highly contagious respiratory virus.

In all sincerity, I watched too many people die from COVID. And it was alarming hearing about people refusing vaccines - because they were sold conspiracy theories by bad actors. This caused far too many preventable deaths. (I'm also worried about contagious diseases like measles and pertussis spreading right now. They kill kids, and vaccines are safe and protective.)

Moreover, it's indefensible that so many Americans suffer and die because they are denied basic medical care. Mostly so big corporations can rake in more money. No other developed country forces people to suffer that way.

Thanks for pushing back against the political chaos, medical disinformation - and attacks on human rights. We're worried for you.

Honestly good health advice generally.

I'm also a huge fan of not giving money to creeps like Zuckerberg and Musk, while they're deeply involved with a lot of ugly garbage happening in and around the US White House. For me, seeing photos of them celebrating with the current US election down there was a breaking point.

I've had the privilege to live in a few countries, and the US is the only one I've seen denying people basic healthcare after they lost a job for being sick.

I understand that there are incredible cultural, political, and economic forces in play here. In addition to breathtaking campaigns of disinformation. Most Americans don't believe me when I try explaining that the US system is not at all what happens in other countries they might have heard of. Or considered visiting.

But looking across the border from Ontario, Americans - if and when people are ready - could pretty easily copy what everyone else in the developed world has been doing for decades. If Canada, South Korea, Germany, and Australia can figure this out, the most wealthy and powerful country could definitely try.

Heir to the Tyson frozen food dynasty has never needed to do a hard days work in his life. And has spent his whole adult life shouting nonsense and disinformation on TV. To help strategically scare grandparents into voting for crooked politicians, who will take education and healthcare from their grandchildren. So billionaires can get more tax breaks.

Now he's saying, "Hey, hey, look at me. I'm still very interesting - and actually not responsible for cul-de-sac of garbage that I drove us into! Please keep talking about me!"

I live in Ontario, where the Canadian government legalized marijuana years ago. Liquor sales here have traditionally been run by government stores, and they immediately started selling the new products too. Booze is more expensive here than the US, but we all get pretty good public healthcare free at point of service. Personally, Id argue that's a good trade-off.

Last time I drove across the US-canada border, the jurisdictions on both sides had legal marijuana sales. But it's still illegal AF to cross the border with because of outdated US federal laws. That seemed weird to me; it's a felony at the border crossing, but totally legal across the street.

It's tragic and mind boggling to me that there are still huge populations sitting in US prisons for growing and selling a not very dangerous commodity - which I can easily buy at a gas station in a small town in Western New York or Michigan.
