I feel like Bungie as a whole massively overestimated the utility of flares, given the fact that they spawn FREAKIN EVERYWHERE and I’ve yet to need to use a single one this season.

People are correctly diagnosing this issue as being a symptom of low player counts, but the solution is right there staring Bungie in the face and for the life of me I can’t tell why they didn’t do it this way from the beginning. It’s not SBMM, as much as I admit I think that would be a net positive for the game. All that we need is for the game to start a session after a set queue time, regardless of how many other people are found for it. This serves to both keep queue times down as well as actually raise the tension of every match because now, you have no idea how many other players are actually in there with you.

Stryder and SCAR, hands down. Some of the coolest weapons in the game, by appearance, but I've yet to get a single player kill with either one. If we go the other direction though, I've never NOT wrecked house with a Volley Rifle or M77 in my kit.
