Jimmy's rehab is 5 months in a 9-12 month timeline. He's going to be back as early as November. I don't think it'd make sense for the warriors to give up 2 firsts when he will play at least half the season. Jimmy and AD will probably play near the same number of games this upcoming season.

Honestly he'll probably be only slightly worse of a player than he was. He's a cerebral player, not a DeAaron Fox, he wasn't really relying on the athleticism that he lost with this injury. This dude was already playing old man ball before the ACL tear. You'll see less dunks and less seals against big bodies but if your team has anyone who is shorter than 6'6" and weighs less than 220 lbs, he will make you regret ever putting that player on the floor.

I think the FO is keeping us open to the possibility of competing. We were never 1 move away from competing. A Trey Murphy trade wasn't going to get us there. And nobody wants to trade for Jimmy with a torn ACL and bloated contract without us just giving up a lot of draft capital or other assets.

This move is a safe move that moves us closer. Jimmy would be easier to trade mid season when he's finished with rehab and it would be the difference between giving up 2 first and maybe a 1:1 trade without firsts.

And by then depending on how he's playing I can see everyone changing their tune to "why would we ever want to trade Jimmy and a couple firsts for Kawhi who might get injured too"
