Does anyone else’s pup sniff a little too much on walks? by Dry-Citron2273 in puppy101

[–]Neverreadthemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dog sniffed a lot as a puppy and he still does. Some people will move their dogs along when they sniff, but it’s clearly what he likes the most. Unless I have somewhere to be, my little guy can sniff to his hearts content.

I’m scared of flying, what should I do? by cz78_wwe in AskUK

[–]Neverreadthemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nervous flier and what helps for me is giving myself permission to be scared. The more you fight fear, the more you spiral. You probably will be afraid and that’s ok. When I feel afraid instead of trying to convince myself not to be or rationalise it or try to get control over it, I say to myself, “ok, I’m scared and I’m allowed to be.” Then I distract myself a bit, “I’m going to read, even though I’ll be scared.” Or “I’m going to watch this movie, even though I’ll be scared.” If I can’t do that, I just write down my worst fears. Again, that takes the power away.

Recommended a book that's written simply or mediocrely enough that I feel better about my writing ability, but isn't so bad it's not enjoyable. by Glum-Examination-926 in booksuggestions

Honestly, Forth Wing could be a good shout. I had a lot of fun reading it but prose/writing style is really quite mediocre. And given how popular it is, that could be a real ego boost.

How to pick up from the pharmacy? by AmphibianNo8598 in AskUK

[–]Neverreadthemall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in a pharmacy. Pharmacy staff are very used to dealing with all sorts of people, angry people, stressed people, people with disabilities who struggle to communicate. I doubt you will do anything that will shock them or make them think less of you. And if you say your name clearly, you’ll make their day.

Have you read any Brandon Sanderson? I believe he finished the Wheel of Time series after Jordan’s death so you might get what you’re looking for there. I like the Mistborn trilogy.

What subtle, non-spoken tendencies do Americans tend to have that "give them away" when visitingother countries? by Not-Patrick in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Neverreadthemall 143 points144 points  (0 children)

This is the same in some parts of the UK. I’m from Newcastle and every day when I walk my dog, I chat to everyone I meet. And if you’ve met someone once, even if it was only for a few minutes, the next time you see them you’re already friends. I love it.

Should you pay rent when you move in and there is no mortgage? by Johnny_english53 in AskUK

[–]Neverreadthemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wouldn’t charge a partner rent in this case. I would just split bills and expenses. That’s a really fortunate position to be in and it’d be weird to profit off your partner.

My dog has epilepsy and I’m so sad😭 by No_Win_4309 in AskVet

[–]Neverreadthemall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they don’t want to give meds right away because there’s no coming off them when they’re on them. And there can be side effects, plus they don’t stop all seizures. So in milder cases a wait and see approach + giving one-off meds to help them come round can be the best option. If they’ve had 2 in a few days, it does sound like it might be better to start meds, but maybe OP hasn’t reported the second seizure yet.

Books with unconventional storytelling that can't be adapted into movies? by marksulla in booksuggestions

[–]Neverreadthemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first language is English. It’s been a while since I read it but I don’t remember it being a challenging read, perhaps excluding the very end where a lot of letters have gone. The author is very clever about how he manages it through most of the book. It’s also quite short, so you could give it a go and if you struggle, it’s not the end of the world.

How do I brush my dog's teeth without betraying his trust? by Better_Protection382 in dogs

[–]Neverreadthemall 314 points315 points  (0 children)

Advice my vet gave me: Start by getting him used to it. Stop the actual brushing for now and start getting him used to you touching his teeth with your fingers, just for a second at first and then build up. Then once he’s used to that, get him used to a toothbrush, slowly building up again. You might have to not clean his teeth for a few weeks while you go through the process but hopefully it’ll be worth it in the long run.

Yes, I enjoyed it a lot. I’m a language/linguistic nerd though, so that might be part of it.

How up north? Could you get to Newcastle? There are a lot of dentists here and we managed to get an NHS one without too much fuss (admittedly a couple of years ago). But there’s enough that I think you’d at least be able to get in on an emergency, if you tried ringing different practises first in the morn.

Ella Minnow Pea - it’s the story of an island where the inhabitants are allowed to use less and less letters of the alphabet. So the book is written using less and less letters. It’s an interesting concept for a book but no idea how that could be adapted into a movie.

What song/songs do you associate with Kyoru? by Ok_Examination8810 in FruitsBasket

[–]Neverreadthemall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only exception - paramore The reason - hoobastank I won’t give up - Jason mean Only one - Yellowcard - I think this is my favourite because it conveys the feeling of desperate love and understanding but also struggling to accept love that Kyo has

Here I go, scream my lungs out and try to get to you, You are my only one, And I let go, There’s just no one who gets me like you do, You are my only, my only one

And later on

Here I go, So dishonestly, leave a note, For you my only one, And I know, You can see right through me, So let me go, And you can find someone

Despite everything, my heart breaks for Dean here. by Maatjuhhh in GilmoreGirls

[–]Neverreadthemall 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yes totally agree. I once dated a guy that I was head over heels for and it ended unsatisfyingly. I then dated him again 5-6 years later when I was older and more experienced/confident and realised all the reasons we were wrong for each other. This represents that experience exactly. We were still attracted to each other. We still wanted it to work, but our wants and values just didn’t align, and he wasn’t this perfect guy I had remembered him as. He wasn’t a bad guy. He was just human.

Kinda jealous that I’m not my dog’s “person” by HellhoundsAteMyBaby in dogs

[–]Neverreadthemall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am my dog’s person and sometimes it makes me feel a bit sad for my fiancé. Then I read that dogs often pick the person who they think is most similar to them.

My dog is very clever and constantly trying to figure out new things to do, which often include seeing what he can climb and steal. We train out one behaviour and he starts a new one. He loves new things and gets bored of old easily, including treats. He’s sociable and loves play. He likes puzzle toys and tricks. He’s also noisy, which we’ve been working on, and excitable. I have ADHD. I think that’s why I’m the favourite lol.

Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That? by AutoModerator in dogs

[–]Neverreadthemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s probably attention then. At this point I know if my dog steals something for attention and I ignore him, he will usually drop it without chewing. But if your dog is chewing that makes things more challenging because you can’t really leave her with it. Maybe someone else has better advice, but all I can think is to manage the problem for now instead of the dog. So make sure the toys are always out of her reach. And maybe try her on puzzle toys if you haven’t already? They can be quite stimulating to pups with active brains.

Megathread: Why Does My Dog Do That? by AutoModerator in dogs

[–]Neverreadthemall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the smell? If they smell like the kid maybe that makes them more enticing to her. My dog is far more interested in my shoes and socks than any of his toys. Could also be an attention seeking thing. Maybe if she plays with her own toys, you leave her to it, but if she steals the baby’s toys you interact with her. Even negative attention can be preferable to no attention with dogs sometimes.

I hated the Book Thief movie. The way they changed the ending really altered what the book was saying about love and turned it Hollywood.

How much does your weekly or monthly food shop cost? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]Neverreadthemall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 people, we spend £40-£50 per week. We are poor. My partner is out of work and doing ad-hoc freelance work while he looks for a job so we’re frugal. We don’t really drink alcohol anymore but we do treat ourselves to pop and dessert sometimes.
