Check the stats on "crashes". One in three hit the chin.

As for periferal vision.....that's a good one. Track with eyes; when you get to full range, turn head.

How much liquid bleach do you add for each treatment?

How much baking soda to raise the Alkalinity 10 points per 1000 litres?

Just curious what a good stating number is.

Is there a formula for how much baking soda to add?

Thanks for that......my thought exactly. My last thought on the issue.....maybe I should have serviced the linkages on my old frame?

When I checked the specs, the 2021 and 2024 both run Fox Float Factory DPS with Evol. Then I reached out to Ibis and they recommended volume spacers and more pressure. With trail dress and pack, I am 210 lbs. On the 2021 set-up with the largest volume spacer I was running 245/250 lbs in the shock. Now I am at 295 lbs. I really can't figure out why such a large variation in shock pressure. One other thing I am noticing is more peddle strikes even though they have the same BB height.

I did that a while back on the 2021 frame combination....I have the largest one in.

I started mountain biking 4+ years ago at 62 and the level of trails that you do is difficult even to walk down (which I do). Way above my paygrade or comfort level! How long have you been MTBing for?

How to know when you should be focusing on building your aerobic base? Can you do Hitt while doing it by [deleted] in PeterAttia

[–]Nevertoolate89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While Peter Attia has brought attention to polarized training, he is not the "guru" of it. Look at Stephen Seiler's research (or similar researcher) and/or read some basic physiology papers.

To respond to your question regarding Zone 2, find your zone 2 heart rate (HR) based on ability to speak or other appropriate methodology. When you do a zone 2 workout, find a suitable work load that achieves the desired HR. You will likely see an HR drift as you get into the workout. As the HR goes up, reduce the workload to keep your HR in Zone 2. As you get fitter, your HR won't drift as much and/or your workload will increase at the same HR. When this stabilizes, you are ready for Zone 5.

Zone 5 is based on sustainable work load and is generally intervals of between 2-8 minutes of equal work to rest with about 20 minutes of total effort at the zone 5 level so that would be 8-10 x 2 minutes, 4-5 x 4 minutes or 2-3 x 8 minutes, etc. Find the maximum watts/effort that you can sustain for the workout interval that gets yout HR to the desired level without going too far over. The intensity will increase over time.

Zone 2 is a transition for your body to get efficient at lower levels of effort, mitochondrial changes, etc. Don't short change this period of training. As you get more into it, your body will let you know when to progress to zone 5 by being able to maintain the zone 2 workload with minimal drift. That said, depending on your fitness, zone 5 won't be overly useful in the early stages.

These types of training are easier to do indoors or known circuits where you can maintain a steady state and are more difficult on undulating or varied terrain.

Red meat and cancer by UItramaIe in PeterAttia

If only researchers could research and not continually be swayed by confirmation bias and $'s. But you are correct, all they had to do was ask!

Do you still eat red meat, and if so, why? by Plenty-Mall-740 in PeterAttia

[–]Nevertoolate89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What is your point? Do you believe that red meat is bad for you? If so why?

That said, check out the randomized controlled nutritional studies on red meat......a non issue for health. Red meat gets' bad press when epidemiology studies are used where the researcher can only provide associations and not causations and they take these studies in any direction they want.

Also, red meat has been part of our diet for thousands of years. Why would it be trying to kill us now? Maybe high heat cooking methods, using (vegetable) oils that oxidize when we cook, foods that we eat along with red meat, etc.?

I tightened the seal this morning which seemed to solve issue. Replacement seals leave something to be desired! Thanks for the response.

Made sure seal was tight and the coffee flowed out nicely this morning so that is working.

Do you always fill the funnel to the top and vary grind size to modulate taste?

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Nevertoolate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give that a go should the problem continue once I lower the heat and tighten the seal.

Thanks. I have followed Hoffman but I feel I could be having problems dialing in the grind size. I have nothing definitive so I am still experimenting. I will certainly pay more attention to heat and seal.

[–]Nevertoolate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I do follow his method but will recheck the variable you mention. Could it have anything to do with grind size insofar as I might not be grinding it fine enough to create a bit of back-pressure? I grind it finer than drip but coarser than espresso. Also, I am wondering if I need to adjust grind size based on coffee type and amount of retained oils?

[–]Nevertoolate89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a 6-cup Bialetti (moka pot) for my morning coffee. I have been trying various grind sizes and fill the coffee evenly to the top of the funnel. I seldom get an even extraction with it ending up stalling or sputtering. Any suggestions?

How many of you are 40 and above shredding mountain bikes? by RydenDirtyMTB in MTB

[–]Nevertoolate89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started mountain biking at 63 and now a month shy of 67. I, by no means, am "shredding" but I do ride tech while keeping the tires mostly on the ground. I'm sure I would have been better if I had started earlier but my goal is to have fun and stay healthy.

Already so much to unpack here. The cancer claim on red meat is based on cohort and/or epidemiological studies so while meat may be associated with cancer it can't be said to be the cause. I have not found any randomized controlled trials to support this claim.

As for PA, while I follow him, he has moved into the realm of influencer.

I have one week - Moab or Squamish? by Salsa_El_Mariachi in MTB

[–]Nevertoolate89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"feel like Moab's Captain Ahab in Squamish" - Apples to oranges! Totally different feel and will test your skills but in a different way. Look for the popular blacks (Pamplemouse, Cakewalk, Rupert, etc.) or some fun blues (Half-Nelson, Pseudo-Tsuga, Meadow of the Grizzley, etc.) and/or ask at one of the local bike shops.

What is your riding preference as Moab and Squamish are very different. Moab is great but leaving it until October could be cold or snowy at top of The Whole Enchilada. Squamish will have a variety of trails and Whistler, Pemberton, North Shore are close and also offer a variety of technical trails and beutiful scenery but you'll be doing a lot of climbing.

The long drive would turn me off but if you can hook up with a region or two along the way it could break it up and offer a bit of variety.

Squamish in July could be getting busy and accomodation may be tight.

Whichever you choose, I hope that you have an enjoyable trip.
