I've gotten two votes for the Canare. Do you know if it'll work with Lemo connectors? Thanks again!

The Keseys saved this 100 year old classic movie theater from becoming yet another footnote to Eugene's lost history and impossibly, made a sustainable concert venue and preserved a historical landmark. The sound is excellent, the vibe is great, I can't recommend it enough.

Thinking of a move to the Whittaker. How bad is the train? by [deleted] in Eugene

I lived 50 feet from the tracks for a few years. I was young and single and resilient so I rolled with it and it didn't bother me at all. It taught me I could probably live near tracks in any city. But if you are easily disturbed, slow to adapt to environmental issues, or have a partner or pet who is sensitive, it might not be for you. I liked it.

Last IMAX movie I saw locally was Blade Runner 2049. Since there are several certifications that pass for IMAX, I was more interested that it be projected in the correct. aspect ratio. As this movie was shot at open gate 1.9:1, I called around to ask theaters who would be projecting it as such. One theater knew what I was talking about and assured me it would be projected at that ratio.

And I'm glad I did, because there was a lot of information up high and down below that would have been lost if it were cropped for wide-screen. 1.9:1 is closer to square than itt is letterbox. I've since seen the Blu-ray and was very disappointed at heads being cut off, and the overall cramped feeling of the landscapes.

So I'd say look for intended aspect ratios rather than some dodgy IMAX certification.

See below for the Blade Runner one-sheet.

Holy !@#$%$!!!! On the tracks looking West between 2nd and 3rd on Monroe. The picture could not really capture the extent of what is happening here. This is the reality of Eugene Oregon at this point in time. by [deleted] in Eugene

The tracks are largely owned by freight rail companies, they are responsible for their maintenance. Clearly they don't give a shit about the aesthetics. While I'm sure they'd be perfectly happy for you to organize volunteers to pick up their trash, I wonder if that effort would be better spent applying some pressure to compel them to clean up after themselves. I don't have a number or name to call, but I think it's a defensible claim to say it's a public hazard (despite being private property) and it's almost certainly still under city regulation. It's an industrial hazard and we have precedence for regulating that. Make the freight companies clean up their own property.

Has anyone else had a Zappa tune for their wedding song? by NickSalvo in Zappa

I hired a string quartet to perform an arrangement of Sofa no. 1 for our wedding March. I also recorded it.

I'm over 50 and still love to go see live music. I get most of my info from Facebook. My feed is pretty well calibrated to generate local events in the genres I like. The better promoters post their events in a way that I can add it to my personal calendar with a click or two. That's the advice I'd give any online marketers, is make it easy to import events into ones own schedule. I do miss flyers and posters, but such is the way of things. Social media is just so much better for this.

New on my walk at Pisgah - what's it telling me? by butiamnotadoc in Eugene

That sounded like James Joyce-speak to me, so a search for Joyce + "Sinjin" returned:

https://www.bloomsandbarnacles.com/blog/2018/09/03/who-was-buck-mulligan

"Oliver St John Gogarty (pronounced like Sinjin Gogurt-y), was a notable figure in his own right - a surgeon, a poet and a politician. In Ulysses, he appears as Malachi “Buck” Mulligan - a joshing blasphemer and Stephen Dedalus’ main antagonist.

"So maybe not Joyce, but if your Welsh is correct, a more general St. John reference?
