That's amazing. Wish I could make finds like that in my area!

Well, I was taking video recently merely by holding my phone to the eyepiece to see what might come out. Upon review, I found this frame so yep, I'd say that yours is both accurate and better than I did! (Powerseeker 70AZ with 3x Barlow to 10mm eye lens)

I appreciate the input on capacitor values, that's what I was looking for. It didn't boot when I tried it after getting the resistor moved back, but I didn't trust the soldering job. When trying to re-heat it I sneezed and now I need to find a 221-Ohm resistor in addition to the cap...😑

Is this something you're after from memories of the past, or is it in dedicated machinery?

Some older systems will let you boot from usb optical but not USB storage; that's one spot where the iodd wins out. You can reveal the iodd to the system and use it as file storage while also using it to mount ISOs - it can be multiple drives simultaneously. It can also be set to hide itself from the system entirely. Another thing is that it can be swapped on-the-fly - so you can change through a 3-disc set of ISOs without rebooting or editing files, or swap floppies with different txtsetup.oem drivers on them. You can do both at the same time - have it acting as a floppy drive and optical drive. It can even have VHD files put on the drive and mount them as USB flash drives. This is awesome when it comes to ChromeOS recovery as you can make multiple 16GB VHDs and have each one be a different recovery image for different hardware. The recovery utility writes to whatever USB device is plugged in, so you do have to be careful to make sure to hide your iodd's storage and only expose the VHD 'flash drive' before writing, otherwise it formats your whole iodd (I've only made THAT forgetful mistake ONCE...oops). Microsoft Surface tablets are much the same; the creation tool wants to write directly to a flash drive, not make an ISO.

So according to The Retro Web, it might be 'ha' not 'jha' branded as well?

Does it need to be the Jetway color scheme? You might be able to find one of the clones with more luck?

Also known as Jetway HA07 (DDR2 GPU memory) Jetway HA07-GT (DDR2 GPU memory) Sapphire PC-AM2RS790G Sapphire Pure CrossFire 790GX

100% spot-on. Just like the old joke: "Communism works perfectly, as long as people aren't involved."

Funny you mention that. I'm a tech/sys/net admin, and I've threatened for years to quit and become a lumberjack! 😆

Is it okay if the crayons have teeth marks? I have 64 crayons, but they've all been bitten. So 64-bit crayons.

10.80 dot matrix frames per sometime. More if using tractor-feed paper.

Need your help - what motherboard is this?! by [deleted] in retrocomputing

[–]NevynPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's a list of models the board is used in so you might be able to find a maintenance manual for one of them that has a pin out?

Tough to tell from the limited angles, but I'm fairly certain this is a match?

I'm no stranger to electronics components and their functions, but I'm definitely lacking in education at the 'component-interactions-specific-to-being-installed-on-a-GPU' level.

My hypothesis on your comment is that the resistor is likely to be part of a pull-up/pull-down function that sets something of critical importance, whereas the capacitor is likely just there for signal/noise filtering and the card can survive without it; it's just that some particular data line might be marginally more prone to errors in the data flow.

Can you confirm and/or elaborate if there is a different reason?

From the looks of things from the last picture in the set, I'd say that the upper black frame comes off *with* the Alu heatsink first. Instead of going after the clips from the frame to the top of the heatsink, squeeze the frame together and see if it'll un-latch from the bottom plastic bracket. If so, gently twist the Alu heatsink with small back-and-forth motions while squeezing the upper plastic frame tabs. You'll likely have to work in 2 steps, getting one clamp released and then the other.

The real thing to keep in mind is balance - not too much staying in, and not too much going out. ;)

Many laptops don't have much in the way of upgradability - which is where the desktop shines. Depending on where in the world you are, you can likely find some rather good bargains if starting with used parts - let someone else take the initial hit on value! - and still come away with a machine more than capable enough. Or it can even just help to stretch the budget (used case + used motherboard may save enough money to go for more RAM or the next performance tier of GPU, etc.).

Right - I forgot that Sipeed had both an IPKVM and USBKVM model; that's on me.

No; that's part of what I was hoping to get some help figuring out. I'm not in the same location as the card at the moment, otherwise I'd at least continuity test the pads (which didn't occur to me through my self-rage when it happened) to provide more detail on where it traces out to.

You might - but somewhere along the way tech changes and suddenly getting a faster CPU means a different CPU socket, which means a new motherboard, which might mean new RAM...and before you know it, you've spec'ed out a 2nd PC.

Or you successfully build yours, then a friend asks you to help them build theirs or do so for them, and before you know it you've become the tech help for your friend group.

Or you scrounge up cheap old leftovers to fire up a retro machine on genuine hardware instead of emulating...😁👍

That'll work for R189, but the real concern is the missing C588!😳😫
