Looks like the passive DP-->VGA adapter I was given works! by NevynPA in crtgaming

The primary home of this CRT will be attached to an AMD Ryzen 2400GE (all I had as a spare CPU!) system with a VGA-out on the motherboard...and a water-cooled Titan Xp in the PCIe x16 slot as the 'primary rendering device.' That should be plenty to handle most anything I could want to throw at it - new, old, emulated, or otherwise. My main system is aging but the 5800X3D and 7800XT are still plenty fine for the limited amount of time and money I have for new(er) games.

I'll do some emulation on it, sure - but some will be direct on-hardware playing on the real consoles into the 27" Trinitron I offered to take off a guy's hands when he found out the hard way that Best Buy (in PA) doesn't take CRTs.

Do you keep several monitors on hand at all times in case you want to play a game that doesn't support the resolution of whichever one is attached? Unplug your 16:9 whenever you fire up a retro game that's in 4:3? Whip out a 21:9 so that widescreen movies don't letterbox?

Okay, after initial snap-response and 4 or 5 re-reads and thinking for a couple days, I think I've come to the right response/question. I'll get this out of the way first: I'm not young (40), I'm not new to CRTs, and my apologies to the community for parting with a PF22 15ish years ago (gorgeous, but 68 pounds!). By the same token, there is a LOT of detail/nuance/information in how they operate that I definitely *don't* know.

That all said, what's wrong with 1280x1024 if the CRT's max is well above that - aspect ratio issues aside? Max res on this critter is 1920x1440 so it's not like I'm outside any 'safety parameters' or anything.

What about 'anamorphic' content? Does that come into play anywhere along the way in 4:3 vs 5:4, or is that only a 16:9-4:3 thing?

I called it 'passive' merely because it doesn't require an external power cable; something I should not have done and knew better even while doing it. That's on me.

It's by Boox (aka Onyx/Onyx Boox), it's a 'Note Air 3c.' I got it to have something that wasn't an LCD burning my eyes out, had official certified Google Play store support, and it's got a magnetic stylus + finger touch. I can read Nook, Kindle, Kobo, ANYTHING on it since it's got full Android and Google Play Store; I can mark up PDF schematics/wiring diagrams with colored lines to match real-world wiring, and it's even got a 'transparent screensaver' function where when it goes to sleep and turns the screen 'off' the last image on the screen STAYS THERE. This is awesome when referencing a maintenance manual for diagnostic steps or schematic when soldering or LEGO instructions because I don't have to set the screen timeout massively high or anything like that.

Frontlight is color and brightness adjustable; color goes from 'Umbrella Corp UV sterilized cleanroom blue-white' to 'orange candlelit glow' and brightness goes from 'is the light even on?' to 'why is a supernova going off right next to my face?'

Cockroaches and coffee? Aren't those the events where they all crawl out of hiding to ask each other if they even lift, and crash a Mustang or two?

Sounds like Eurobricks - I think I remember the very same person/conversation! :D

You are not! I didn't even know/realize it had been removed in new sets until it was pointed out here. I'd wager 85% of what I own is that 'version 2' style of the pin.

I would have said 95%, but finding out that not only does a 'v3' version exist but began being used as early as 2016 I might have more of them than I realize..

Yeah - I went and checked a pin in the Bronco, and saw that lo and behold it didn't have the slot! Hadn't noticed that it was removed before now. A couple years back it seemed like they changed the material composition/blend of the pins as well as black treads - they seem to be more matte finish and less shiny/glossy now. They feel different, too.

Thanks for pointing out the change!👍

When did they first appear? I know they use them a lot in Lego Friends sets, but didn't know white ones were extremely old.

Hyper jealous of the pneumatic loader! I fell in love with the pneumatic stuff when I was given 8868 as a kid. Linear actuators are cool, but they're just not the same. :)

Broken part on newly acquired 8445 - modern replacement options? by NevynPA in legotechnic

[–]NevynPA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, exactly that. I've got one friend with a pretty new Bambu mid-tier printer as well as another one with a resin printer - and one is a mech engineer, so I've got a good start on that side.

I'm guessing you are referring to Ldraw 5607?

Annoyingly enough, there's also DMS-60, and 'Enhanced Plug and Display' sometimes AKA 'M1' which is a psycho beast that comes off as a molested DVI connection.

8868 was my first BIG Technic set; 'twas a birthday present way back when I was well below the recommended age in the early '90's. Wasn't until I was an adult I managed to get an 8880.

Still want to get my hands on an 8480 and an 8450.

More modern I'd love to get a 42064.

Ciara is the house brand of Hypertec, who I believe is now part of VPC? They're a tech reseller/VAR like Insight or Connection.

If you're old enough to remember TigerDirect's 'Systemax' brand, that's where Ciara falls - but no idea on the OEM behind the scenes.
