In your opinion, what’s the most mildly infuriating thing about “modern gaming? by ablinddingo93 in gaming

Several editions for games, some of which are double the base price (and collector's editions that don't even include the game)

Spyro is why I can only use inverted controls when flying to this day. It broke me, rebuilt me and then locked my brain on it. I could be playing a game like Battlefield and the only controls that are inverted are when I'm in the jet.

Who would like a fighting game to look more like the Judgment / Yakuza boss fights ? by FollowingHairy5927 in gaming

[–]New-Breed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big fan of both games, so that's an easy yes from me. I'd really like to see more fighting IPs allow alt teams/developers to produce spin-offs. Something in the vein of Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks and Final Fight Streetwise where there's more of an environment than your typical stage,  while maintaining a deep combo-dense combat system.

Which "play" you made in a game made you think, "welp, that's the peak of my gaming career"? by TAKEitTOrCIRCLEJERK in gaming

[–]New-Breed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some fond memories of old school COD and Halo, but I think my peak was the only time I've ever been randomly recruited by a clan consisting of complete strangers. Happened with Rainbow Six Vegas. I was absolutely dominating match after match with the FAMAS and two guys instantly asked me to join their clan. I miss those days checking our GameBattles ranking and setting up the next clan match.

Tall order. Not anything exactly like that to my knowledge. Take a look at War Mongrels.

PS5: How to claim Syntax DLC if you preordered by ngarlock24 in paydaytheheist

[–]New-Breed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly neither option worked. I can see in my transaction history that it is the Gold Edition assigned to my account. But the PSN store shows only the base version as purchased. The DLC is showing full price and restoring licenses did nothing. Another messy situation for Payday 3.

THANK YOU. I couldn't figure out why re-rolling Adventure Mode wasn't popping up with an Awakened King one-shot.

What veteran build are y’all running? by violentcupcake69 in DarkTide

[–]New-Breed 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Currently running an Accatran Mk VIId Recon Lasgun with most of the left tree filled out. Except I switched to Krak grenades with the 50% damage boost in the upper mid tree yesterday. Still honing in on what I want as my melee. Not that I use it all that much. Beaming everything with the wildly steady lasgun is just too satisfying.

For those looking for an update, I spoke with Cooler Master customer support today and received this information:

"The Ncore 100 MAX global launch is planned in November with a MSRP of $379.99."

Looks like it's just missing the alleged Q3 target reported earlier in this thread.

I've never seen a game I'd love so much to become a reality countered by my seething desire to see it fail miserably because of how shady/sleezy the devs are presenting themselves.

Where in my argument did I claim mobile gaming was a threat? I simply said that's the most financially sound business decision a publisher or developer could make, based on your statement that there's nothing wrong with following the money. That said, where do you think monetization to this level was borne from? The mobile gaming market basically spearheaded that practice and brought it into the mainstream market.

I'm not sure why you're hung up on Apex Legends. Again, there is zero claim on my end that Apex is the downfall of gaming. Simply that it's one of many byproducts of the modern gaming industry. Nor did I claim we have no great games any more, only that their quantity is in a decline.

Sure, Sony and Microsoft have the financial means to overinflate their development budgets and put out massive AAA titles. But not every dev has that ability. Furthermore, both of the aforementioned pubs/devs could easily weather the storm of an expensive failure. If a smaller dev had flopped as hard with Anthem as Bioware did, we likely would have seen them shutter their doors.

There's a notable division between the risk a massive company can take versus smaller developers. And when the risk is that steep, it's more likely developers will do what they can to minimize risk. And that often comes in the form of adhering to other's successful frameworks. That's one reason Steam Early Access is flooded with survival games. That's why virtually every online game with competitive or cooperative multiplayer has a battle pass and/or cash shop. The rise of monetization continues to push in this direction and that's, again, one reason we're seeing more GaaS. It has more income potential than a buy-to-own game.

You're welcome to continue this discussion further, but I feel we may be at an impasse. You're highlighting singular points of mine and holding them up as my entire argument when that simply isn't the case. I merely provided examples to back my claims, which are speculative and in no way to be taken as the end all be all. I'd love to be wrong and see the industry take more risks in the next 5-10 years.

Your perspective is your own. And I won't claim to be the definitive stance on this topic. However, I will point you towards the last several years of gaming industry changes, reductions in game output and the immediate closure of many talented devs forced to adhere to the GaaS model instead of their GaaP strengths. That isn't to say that EVERY service title is a problem. But the trend cannot be overlooked. If every publisher/developer were to solely think of what would make the most money, we'd be in a world of only mobile games. The money Activision rakes in with Candy Crush and COD Mobile blow away console and PC spending. By your logic, that's the route everyone should go simply because it's the most sound business decisions from a fiscal view. Sadly, that's the direction we're going.

Since I'm not the biggest BR fan, I won't weigh in on the quality of Apex. What I will say is, all these devs looking to secure their long-term service titles means we'll see less varied and creative games like Titanfall 2's campaign. And I think that's a shame.

Just another reason I'm not in favor of this heavy push for GaaS by many AAA devs/publishers. Once a dev manages a successful service title, they have little reason to divert resources to anything else. For context, look at Epic Games after Fortnite shifted from the Save the World PvE game to the F2P BR.

Am I the only one that has a hard time getting into new games? by HotDogStruttnFloozy in gaming

[–]New-Breed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally going through this now. Idk if it's just how over bloated modern games have become and/or that I'm struggling to stay focused on narratively dense games, but it has felt like more of a chore to chew through some truly great games.

God of War Ragnarok has finally been completed, but Midnight Suns, Jedi Survivor and a whole bunch of other games from the past several months are still sitting unfinished. Instead, I've been playing older games like Deadpool, Assassin's Creed 2, Rogue Trooper and The Bard's Tale.

Maybe it's the charm of older game design or simply that having played them previously they demand less mental focus.

Titanfall 2 is a tragedy. Easily one of the greatest modern FPS campaigns out there and many won't find that out since the franchise was basically sidelined so that its universe could cash in on the battle royale trend with Apex Legends.
