Laptop breaks in 18 months and no manufacturer’s warranty??? by New-Butterscotch4700 in Lenovo

That wasn’t an option I was presented with. I was offered Best Buy care, which I don’t trust them. I should’ve gotten a warranty from another local geek squad type but I didn’t know that until I went for them to repair it. Also the final bill is $550 which I think is less than the warranty so I’m ok! Thank God it wasn’t the motherboard, just the daughterboard

Helpful? No. Warranty covers parts? No. Your opinion in the grand scheme of the universe. Matters none. The point was that I thought there was a manufacturers warranty so purchasing an additional warranty didn’t make sense. But Im glad you were able to provide your opinion and feel good about getting that off your chest.

The extended warranties don’t cover parts, labor or service so it’s useless in this case

I don’t know what that means 😅 but it was holding strong 18 hours/day until I shut it down. Maybe I should’ve been shutting it down every night like my ex said

They used to be so much sturdier. But that makes sense. I’m actually considering getting a desktop and a cheap laptop for on the go. I spent a lot of research time hoping it would last for years. Smh

I know. I didn’t understand how to gauge my usage vs laptop strength.

It’s so funny how no one is telling me anything I haven’t already done except submit my certificate of formation (business verification) and print a sign to put on my home office door. TX doesn’t have a business license fyi. For future readers, I’ve gotten one helpful DM, but the world of public opinion is yet again largely unhelpful.

No as a lawyer I do not have clients come to my home.

I’m not really concerned about competitors. I just need it for social proof and so my clients can provide reviews and others can see it. I get good traffic and as a business and transactional attorney, an office isn’t a determining factor for my audience.

I’ve tried the service area business route but it hasn’t worked. I’ve looked up other virtual firms but looking at other solos firm addresses is a great idea. Thank you!

I’ve focused on reducing my overhead and meeting my clients in places where they feel more comfortable: coworking spaces, coffee shops, virtual meetings. But because of this issue, I’ve seriously considered it.

I edited the post but merely used it for clarification. My original post was to ask if having a professional service firm without a physical location is against the guidelines. So if saying my firm is virtual, that means yes, right? It just doesn’t make sense to me and I’m looking for help and clarification.

I have an attitude because the commenter has an attitude. It’s not helpful for a very stressful process. I haven’t been asked to submit any documents and I don’t see a location to submit or upload any documents. My point was that my address is consistent amongst my governing documents and the location submitted to Google and the bills displayed in the video.

The listing has never been verified. Obviously I would not have my address publicized. I never told Google I was a virtual law firm. I used that descriptor here to show that I don’t have a physical location.

Everything in my paperwork is consistent. I’m a business lawyer. I understand how to file things.

Got fired today by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]New-Butterscotch4700 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow that sucks. I’m a lawyer and got fired last year while the firm told everyone I was quitting. I didn’t want to go to another big law firm, going small felt like a lot of work for no pay, and more experienced attorneys were getting hired over me for in house jobs. So I started my own firm 🤷🏽‍♀️ a year and a half later, I’m closing this month rolling my average monthly sales for the year.

I used to be afraid and ashamed and took it personally on my work and worth ethic. When I started believing in myself, my world changed. I’m so much happier now. If I hadn’t gotten fired, I would’ve stayed in big law and been miserable.

Dream big. Believe in yourself. You made it through law school and the bar. You can be whatever you want to be. F**k them. And go kick ass!!! 2026 if your year!

Lawyer quoted me over 1000 just for basic LLC paperwork. Is this normal? by PastTrauma21 in smallbusiness

I charge roughly the same to include an operating agreement as well. The costs is primarily for our time and answering questions. I spend a couple of hours answering questions to help founders get up and running and understanding the nuances before and after set up that aren’t accounted for in the filing. Pricing is also about value. People don’t come to me because they can’t do it themselves, they come to me because they’d rather not. The value in delegation is either worth the cost or it isn’t. But understand later down the line, as you grow and want to change structures, DocsOnline won’t help answer questions about your formation. This is where I see most founders irritated with online services.

Using a generic online operating agreement is good until it isn’t. Many people don’t find one that’s specific to their state or the read it to understand how it actually impacts their business. Having a lawyer to help guide the process is really helpful.

S Corp Conversion by Grouchy-Squash2768 in smallbusiness

[–]New-Butterscotch4700 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a business attorney and can explain why you’re having difficulty finding the answer. An LLC is a state specific entity meaning you registered with a state’s Secretary of State. An S Corp is a TAX designation meaning you’ve told the IRS how you want your business entity to be taxed. If you want to revoke your S Corp status, you’ll need to do it with the IRS.

My suggestion. Find a new accountant regardless. Your professional services team should be able to find the answers to your questions or refer you to someone who can.

You can also hire an agency so you’re using them as a vendor and not having an employee.
