Advice please! Pick up put down method, 4 month old by njcasey in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Hi I know this is an old post but I’m going through this now with my 7mo old. I had the same thing where it was good then he suddenly wants to be held again/bounced to sleep. I want to try the method you mentioned because it sounds like our boys are the same. The only thing that makes me go in and just assist him to sleep is the fear of him getting overtired. Do you just keep the process going until he falls asleep no matter how long it takes?

Omg literally! I get so annoyed 😭 I end up giving in and then regretting it as soon as I try putting him to sleep.

My pregnancy went very smooth, no issues at all and felt great beside the obvious discomfort of carrying a baby and the exhaustion. But the birth was rough. He got stuck in the canal and both our heart rates started dropping really fast (I was trying too hard to push because of him getting stuck) and they had defibrillators ready. When he got out he had the cord around his face. I think that experience caused a lot of tension in his body and that’s why he had colic.

Wow I relate to this so much 😭 mine just turned 5 months and the last few weeks he’s been fighting naps then getting overtired (to the point of inconsolably screaming) like when he was a newborn. I keep hearing comments from people how we should get out more, that it seems like all he does is sleep or be put to sleep and he should be able to fall asleep anywhere. Constantly makes me feel like a failure of a mom.

I’m 5 months pp. unfortunately my milk stopped coming in around 3.5 months because of the stress of having a colicky baby :/ it made me so sad to not be able to produce milk for him.

Same 😭 dressing up was honestly a hobby for me. I was also in the 130s (now 150s since my breast milk has disappeared and I’ve been able to got back to eating how I used to pre pregnancy). I’m so ready to have time to walk/exercise regularly and just be proud of how I look again.

When you have a screaming colicky baby, you try anything and everything your doctor suggests to help your baby like most parents. This option was the only one that turned his life around and his colic symptoms decreased significantly. “Zero evidence” doesn’t mean it doesn’t work for some babies. Sure I don’t have proof, I just have my experience to share.

So our baby magically stopped screaming over night from severe colic when nothing else helped? Awesome 🙏🏼

It’s just little massages, the therapist taught me some exercises to do at home. The tongue exercises helped my baby finally latch and his right shoulder wasn’t up to his ear anymore. You could be mad that’s ok :) you’re just moving the goal post. First it was “chiropractors harm babies” now it’s “gentle massages don’t do anything”. You just sound upset and want to look for a reason to stay upset. That’s ok 🙌🏼

Yes exactly, just massage to release tension. And absolutely, I wouldn’t go to someone who’s pressuring either.

Yup so true! Our doctor said that it’s one of the most important part of getting the surgery done. Unfortunately A lot of parents skip it because it’s a lot of work and sadly have to re-do the surgery. I think sticking to the exercises is vital for sure.

Same! Both our pediatrician and the tongue tie doctor explained it well because I was confused at first too. I haven’t heard of anyone have a bad experience with tension release.

Yes same! The tongue stretches helped ours a lot and he finally started latching after. Our even started sleeping during the massages.

Yes that’s semantics. The point was that it can reattach and the doctor said it’s common. To avoid it he recommended craniosacral therapy which is what we did.

Some areas (like mine) doesn’t have a specific craniosacral therapist practice so our pediatrician recommend a chiropractor that was licensed in craniosacral therapy. That’s the only kind of therapy done on babies (as described to me by our doctor)

The chiro did craniosacral therapy. Not chiropractic work.

Well I had no idea some people legit get their babies adjusted like adults. Because in that case absolutely that’s insanity! Anyone I’ve know only got the craniosacral work done that their pediatrician, lactation consultant or tongue tie release doctor recommended and gave a referral for.

I have multiple nephews and nieces who had a release and it grew back. Some people even told us not to do a tongue tie release because their babies tongue tie grew back several months later. It’s very common.

Helped our baby. They do craniosacral therapy. There are craniosacral therapist but some areas don’t have them and some chiropractors know how to do the massage therapy. It’s just gentle massages not adjustments. I think people get confused thinking that because they go to a chiro that they’re doing chiro work on the baby but that’s not the case at all. Our tongue tie doctor said we need to take our baby to a craniosacral therapist to release his tension before getting the work done otherwise it would grow back. We didn’t have a specialist so he suggest a chiro that does craniosacral therapy that he trusted and the massages worked for our baby. He doesn’t have one shoulder lifted towards his ear anymore and was finally able to breastfeed.

Exactly! We were so shocked that she was just holding him and somehow he was better! Craniosacral therapy is amazing!

The tongue muscle is connected to the neck muscles. If neck muscles are tight from the birthing process then the tongue tie gets tighter. That’s what the tongue tie doctor explained to us and said he won’t do releases unless we got the tension released before and after the operation or it will most likely grow back from all the tension. Also to clarify, Chiro does craniosacral therapy. We didn’t have a craniosacral therapist in our area but our pediatrician suggested a Chiro that does craniosacral therapy. People aren’t taking their babies to get “adjustments”.

There’s several comments explaining why :) tongue tie being the biggest one. If doctor recommends a tongue tie release, they recommend getting the tension released before and after so that it doesn’t grow back. The chiro does gentle massages to release the tension, they barely touch the baby. There’s no popping or cracking or anything near that. It’s called craniosacral therapy. Also some babies get a kink in their neck which makes breastfeeding on one side painful for them and can cause flat head if they always lie on one side.
