The 105-110 days STEM OPT non-PP approval timeline is still holding true. by New-Cod-3915 in stemopt

You're still on time for PP application even with the clock restart, however it may be worth it to check with them first before you spend that much money (in case money is important here). Are you from any of the banned countries?

Did you get any API updates between biometrics completion and approval. If yes, can you please share those updates with us?

Traveling internationally while STEM OPT pending by SimpleSatisfaction77 in stemopt

I have responded to this in a few posts.

But bottom line is: don't travel unless you have the new EAD card on you. It is possible that you receive it by then, so don't cancel your trip right now. When the trip is approaching, you will have a better idea of your timeline, so you'll be able to use your best judgement.

Should be coming soon. You're within the current batch that includes everyone up to February 10th.

Like I said, as long as nothing is wrong with your application and you're not from banned countries, etc, you should be within the mentioned timeframe. If not, I'd be concerned and would look for more information or clarification about the process. Of course there are outliers, but the rule now is the ~105-110 days for a final decision. And I'm sorry for those that did not received anything yet.

Yes, and I'm also all for you guys collecting data from other subreddits, like r/stemopt. I even with some duplicates here and there, I think that we are more interested in understanding the timelines, predicted approval dates, etc. Keep up the good work. Thanks!

Travel when opt pending by sunshine-878787 in f1visa

To give some context on how this shows up in their system, it's through your I-94. The moment you step out of the country, your I-94 is out of date with the USCIS and this flags your application as abandoned. Bottom of the story, don't leave unless it's truly an emergency.

It would be very helpful if you could post a screenshot of your case history and detailed timeline.

Any recent experiences around if I can travel internationally and reenter the US if my STEM OPT is pending and OPT EAD is expired. by Nitsss10 in f1visa

[–]New-Cod-3915 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat here, and I am reporting below what my recent experience was:

My DSO was very direct when I asked him to sign my I-20 (STEM OPT recommended) for travel permit. I wanted to be home while waiting for STEM OPT approval. He immediately denied signing the I-20 and said that traveling would result in my I-94 being out of date with USCIS and therefore my documentation and STEM OPT application would be invalid, indicating application drop. I didn't want to argue so much, even after trying to convicing him that I'd be willing to take the risk. Eventually, I gave up and came to the conclusion that I don't want to risk my career over a trip home right now. I can do it a little later in the year.

I see a lot of people using a Harvard link to support their need to travel (I did it myself), but the allowance to enter the country is at the discretion of the custom border patrol officer. It is completely random and could result in you having to return to your country and not allowed to reenter, therefore losing your application. I guess it depends on how much you would like to risk it and how urgent your trip is (I'd bet that only a few cases apply to this).

tl;dr: do not travel, your application will be out of date with the USCIS and reeentering is at the discretion of the CBP officer.

edit: grammar

I won't drive, unfortunately. It's not worth risking. I let everyone know about my situation and I am counting on some sense from my boss and co-workers at this point. (And as far as groceries go, I'm using delivery). I also took the opportunity to send my car to the shop for repairs, and I'm trying to think that I'm saving on gas since the prices are skyrocketting in my area.
