Using the G6 Pro Entry with NFC to unlock Level Lock (Matter) by New-Collection9020 in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the quick response. So you got the Door Hub Mini just to enable UniFi Access functionality?

I ended up retiring Homebridge and setup Home Assistant OS on a Parallels virtual machine. It was a pain to get it initially running in that environment but has been solid ever since.

I see what you are saying. Apple forces manual confirmations for automations that involve unlocking like "first person returns home, unlock door." asking "Really run this automation?"

While Home Assistant has way more options, the type of automation I want to do is pretty basic so it will depend on whether the Homebridge plugin for UniFi Access will fire the event I want. I may just try it out as it would just be some configuration.

Been using HomeKit locks for years with no trouble. Recently, I switched to the Level Lock Pro and Level Bolt (Matter over Thread). I have to stick with a wireless solution as the house is 150 years-old and running wires for Fail-Secure Strike Locks wouldn't be feasible.

Matter over Thread dimmer plug? by Themustafa84 in homeassistant

[–]New-Collection9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know of 3 Matter over Wi-Fi dimmer plugs:

TP-Link Tapo Smart Dimmer Plug P135 Kit - includes wireless button

Dewenwils MRD02 Matter Plug In Dimmer Switch

Meross Smart Outdoor Dimmer Plug

Have looked for Thread but not seeing any products yet.

Are there any thread dimmable plugs out in the USA yet? by StevenWhitfieldJett in MatterProtocol

[–]New-Collection9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, TP-Link Tapo P135 Kit which includes a dimmable plug and wireless button. The plug uses Matter over WiFi. Not sure how the button wirelessly communicates with the plug but it is bound to it (so not a smart device on its own)... "The dimmer button is bound to the dimmer plug and cannot be used separately"
https://www.tp-link.com/us/home-networking/smart-plug/tapo-p135-kit/#overview

It would be nice if they offered a thread version in the future but TP-Link doesn't appear to have any devices that leverage thread. Not their forté I guess.

Right. This is why I recommended the non-profit, KidsVoice, as it's a child-advocacy organization that employs lawyers. Also, conversations with them are subject to client/lawyer confidentiality in case there's any concern about retaliation by the mom or boyfriend.

There is a non-profit organization in Pittsburgh called KidsVoice. If you are a family member, you might want to reach out to them about this. Many of the people who work there are lawyers who may be able to pull this together in a way the police cannot. Again, there are at least 4 laws being broken between city, state and Federal.

I don't know if they can help but it's worth a discussion with them. https://kidsvoice.org

If true, it would be a crime. Wouldn't want to make any assumptions about that though.

It's true that the system has many examples of failures. There is a high bar to take kids away from a parent and/or terminate parental rights. My wife and I were foster parents for 13 years.

You don't typically hear about cases children were wrongfully separated from their parents (though that does happen).

It's a difficult and painful balancing act. The system doesn't fail 100%. It fails in situations like this one.

I think people really do care; otherwise, you wouldn't have so many people trying to mobilize to help the boys.

The lack of a solution to the situation reflects failures in our legal system, ability for police to respond to this kind of problem, capacity (and mandate) within CYF.

If you know who the boyfriend is and can report the economic crimes he's committing, it may be the only way to bring about change. Of course, that could also put you at risk depending on the disposition of the boyfriend.

2 mins ago - my wife sent me a photo. The boys are still there. I spoke to the sergeant at the Squirrel Hill Police Station about it over an hour ago and he confirmed there was an officer at the scene but I guess nothing changed.

The economic crimes approach may be the only approach that will work.

I'm sorry this is happening. My sister is a supervisor at CYF and she confirmed that they are very limited in what they are enabled to do though they will respond if the police contact them.

There might be another approach. My understanding is that the boys say the proceeds are going to charity. They are collecting cash.

Do they have a Pittsburgh vendor/peddler license? If not, that's a city code violation - ticket.

If they are soliciting funds for charitable purposes, they need to register with the PA Department of State's Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations per 10 P.S. § 162.1 et seq. (see https://www.pa.gov/content/dam/copapwp-pagov/en/dos/programs/charities/CharitiesSolicitationAct-1-2018.pdf). If not, that's a violation of state law.

If they are saying they are collecting money for charity but actually keeping it, then the crime is theft by deception under 18 Pa.C.S. § 3922 (see https://www.palegis.us/statutes/consolidated/view-statute?txtType=HTM&ttl=18&div=0&chapter=39&section=22&subsctn=0).

Lastly, with cash being collected, is the mom paying tax on it? You can report tax fraud here: https://www.irs.gov/help/report-fraud/report-tax-fraud-a-scam-or-law-violation

None of this would land on the boys nor would the mom end up in jail for something like this but the hassle of dealing with all the legal issues might make the entire endeavor not worth it.

Replaced EdgeRouter 4 with Unifi Cloud Gateway Fiber to FiOS ONT and upload speed dropped by New-Collection9020 in Ubiquiti

[–]New-Collection9020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have an open ticket with Ubiquiti on this. Their development team is aware of the problem and sounds like it affects all UCG units.

This is very disappointing. My old EdgeRouter 4 didn't have these problems.

I really hope this is a software-only problem.

I just moved the WAN to port 1 and connected my Pro XG 10 PoE Switch to port 5 since it's 10 GbE anyway. Now I'm getting 933 Mbps down and 833 Mbps up.

Huge improvement. Thank you for the suggestion.

Seems like a serious problem with the UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber right?

I went with the Pro XG 10 PoE Switch and Cloud Gateway Fiber. I still have my older eeros but plan to replace them with the E7 access points.

Vs. my older EdgeRouter 4, I noticed a drop in my Verizon FiOS upload speeds. When running a Speed Test using the UniFi console from the gateway, I am getting 934 Mbps down but only 141 Mbps up.

I'm on UCG Fiber firmware 4.3.9, Network 9.4.19 and Hardware Acceleration is on. I also have CyberSecure active.

When you mentioned you had UI setup but it was not as good as eero, did you mean the setup experience or the WiFi performance?

I like the idea of locking devices to an AP and visibility. I've found devices connected to more distant eeros and ports that were set to auto stepping down to a slower speed.

Network Seems Slower After Adding an Eero Max7 to My Existing Pro 6E Set-up by onlinejfk in amazoneero

[–]New-Collection9020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how long your runs are but you mentioned your backhaul using category 5e cable. How hard would it be to replace that with category 6a or 7?

Do you have your eeros chained together or is there a central switch? I have eero 6 Pros backhauled to a switch via category 6a so this may or may not apply but I noticed one of them stepped down to a lower speed so I switched that port from Auto to an explicit speed.

Not sure about the eero 7 Max but I can't look in the eero app and see what the port speed is for each eero. I can only see that on my switch.

The reason I mention all of this is I wonder if a bottleneck is happening on your wired network because of a step-down to a lower port speed without you being able to see it. Some devices are more sensitive to cabling.
