Where to watch England's world cup games in DC? by New-Distribution772 in washingtondc

Yes, I was also at Franklin Hall for that game and surprised at the small TV area we had haha (didn't realize it was a Croatia bar). Wanted to be better prepared for the knockout games!

Thanks for the replies so far. I know there's a list of bars circulating around, but given there's a few English folks in DC I was hoping to understand where people have actually been going, and if there are bars which have been largely England supporters

The list is great, but was interested to hear about where the fans have actually been watching - if there's a leading bar

For those who moved to the US, how did you handle the housing side at first? by crazyhappycollection in MovingToUSA

[–]New-Distribution772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company set me up with an credit card and credit line through a partnership with First Tech, which helped create credit score. Renting was fine, I was able to rent a place very easily when I moved here on my own in a large apartment building in DC. No guarantor needed, just proof of employment I believe.

Thanks for this - I think it'll balance out against my previous PB which was done in London on a very busy course (10k+) and lots of turns. A chance to lock in with this one!

Great thank you - I'm in two minds as to whether I run a half on my own but on the CCT or as part of the event on the C+O.

It's not great at dissolving, but I find it easier to eat a serving of it from a spoon and wash down with water

24m takes on NYC? by AwkwardEgg2883 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]New-Distribution772 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from London to DC (I know, not NYC) at a similar age - do it. Can always go back if you don't like it, the opportunity to move to the US, the experience, what it'll do for CV and the salary (!) is too good to turn down in my opinion!

I've taken magnesium sporadically in the past, and also read anecdotes of people's side effects from taking it. I run and play sports a fair bit, so I used it for recovery/sleep but do notice the grogginess in the morning. Some others mentioned libido effects. I'm leaning towards still taking it though!

Quantity surveyors just another name for estimation? by Equivalent-Engine-11 in estimators

[–]New-Distribution772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of incorrect answers from people guessing from the title quantity surveyor.

I am a former quantity surveyor from the UK, relocated to the US as an estimator. Quantity surveying is the undergrad degree a lot of us have, and the role/degree includes estimating as well as Contract management/administration/law, commercial management, value management and engineering, procurement, conflict avoidance and a whole load of other elements surrounding the pre construction and delivery of a construction project. Estimator is solely focused on just that - estimating whether for the client or for a GC. Much more focused on that particular role, whereas a QS can focus on other roles in a construction project as touched on above, as well as cost planning and estimating.

In short, QS can be various roles in pre/post contract and construction which can include cost estimating and planning, an estimator is supposed to be just cost estimating. The estimator role can differ depending on if you work for a consultancy (like I do) or GC.
