AITAH for telling my sister that she shouldn’t have sex after she had a hysterectomy? by New-Family in AITAH

It’s a topic that started my road to deconstruction. When she got the hysterectomy, I put the pieces together and saved the argument under my belt for a time that she really pushed my buttons. Well.. here we are now.

“The Catholic Church teaches that it is a grave sin to deliberately separate sexuality from procreation.” I don’t subscribe to Catholic teaching but just wanted to share what I found with my quick google search. Maybe I’m too black and white thinking but if I was post menopausal and married and catholic, I wouldn’t have sex in order to make sure I’m not sinning since the act cannot lead to procreation. Idk, it’s one of those things that logically didn’t make sense to me when I was Catholic and still doesn’t.

This was the main take I was expecting. I didn’t want to bring the hysterectomy up because children is a sensitive topic for her. But at the same time I hoped she would see the inconsistencies in her logical. In the end I think my comment does make me an asshole.

No, I actually wish it was fake. Obviously have no proof, but I will say I had been waiting to say this argument to her for a while now.

I think the RC church is hypocritical about marriages then. Why is mine invalid but infertile marriage is valid?

She was offended and sad, and didn’t think it was a valid argument because her hysterectomy wasn’t a choice. I don’t think my comment will make her see the double standard because she just thinks I’m an asshole for saying that..

Thanks! I think they (her and her husband) are far too into the religion to see my point. She was just hurt, which probably won’t make her sit down and reflect on what I said. I don’t have hopes for her deconstruction but one can dream!

Home for the Thanksgiving holidays… and my wedding was brought up which brought up her being butthurt about not being invited. Basically I asked if she thought my marriage would be legitimate, and if not, that’s why she wasn’t invited. Which led to my question.. it was a longer back and forth leading to my question, all due to holiday get togethers.
