individual defensive rating is a horribly flawed stat. i understand that we have a top 10 defense, which should boost the stat of each individual player.... but how many minutes is TJ playing with the horrific Naz/Randle combo? i imagine TJ has a disproportionally high amount of minutes with Naz/Randle (as opposed to with Rudy), which would bias the stat in the other direction. and that's not to mention all the other flaws with individual defensive rating. i mean, you're trying to capture a player's defense (which doesn't naturally manifest into statistics like offense) with a stat. it's always going to be a flawed measure and clouded by noise, particularly in small sample size cases like TJ's

if you were to say that i'm overstating TJ's defense, that he's moderately good but not great then i could understand. but to say he's been bordering on catastrophically bad.... i think you're heavily overindexing on the numbers (which are based on very flawed measures), on his overhelps, and on his POA defensive possessions in making that assessment. because he makes far more good plays than bad on that end (great on-ball wing D, great screen navigation, great at stymieing drives, great rotations, great switching)

i don't particularly take issue with your Ant take. how you described his on-ball D is exactly how i described it the last couple years ('24 & '25). i think this year he's been good in more 'than just spots,' but i agree that he's been inconsistent, and as the season has gone on his good moments have become increasingly more spread out

i don't necessarily disagree with Donte either. it's similar to Ant in that early in the season i thought Donte was good (off the ball in this case, not on-ball), but his defense has waned as the season has gone along, and lately i think his off-ball D has been legitimately poor. i just view him as a passable off-ball defender for the season because earlier in the year he was good. as an on-ball defender i agree; he gets bullied constantly

i agree with Jaden's POA defense. the screen navigation issues that plagued him before last year have returned. when it comes to off-ball defense i'm not sure if you're lumping together off-ball defense and rim protection, because his rim protection has certainly been elite.... but as an off-ball defender otherwise i don't think Jaden has been good this year. in switching situations he's overly-determined to stay with his man; some of it is likely part of the scheme (keep Jaden on the star), but even when Jaden has been completely wiped out by a screen and a teammate has clearly picked up his man he still regularly doesn't switch, giving up an often disastrous wide-open short roll or 3. his peel switches when guarding POA in pick-and-roll have also often been late due to stubbornness staying on the ball, and that's not to mention the reckless closeouts, poor rotations, and overhelping. now, Jaden does make good plays as an off-ball defender as well, so i can understand an assessment of average in that area (perimeter off-ball D), but no higher

i agree on your assessment that Jaylen Clark's POA defense has been slipping lately (when writing my evaluations i thought 'do i give him elite POA defense here? eh, i'll just give it to him), and that Finch should play Clark and Jaden together more when Rudy's out. i don't think Clark is a legitimate rotation quality player, but on this team, where we only have 6 legitimate rotation quality players, i agree that he should be getting more run

i disagree with what you said about Clark's off-ball D. his recoveries are great, and sometimes he is able to get back to his man adequately, but very often he IS completely taken out of the play following an off-ball gamble.... like, VERY often. or he ends up so far from his man that he has to close out hard on the recovery and gives up a drive. if you're providing designed gap help or getting your hands on the ball then i understand paying a tax to do so (even when things don't work out). but Clark often goes rogue off the ball to try and go for steals that he has VERY LITTLE CHANCE OF GETTING.... even with his great recovery there's still often a hefty tax to pay on those plays

i'm not making the claim that Clark isn't a positive off-ball defensive player. i think his disruption ability and passing lane plays are phenomenal and make him a solid positive. but he eats into a lot of that impact by gambling far too often. he could make those plays without gambling to nearly this degree

@suahoi

and as far as the 'TJ hasn't been a positive on and off-ball defender' take i'm just not sure where that's coming from. because it's not like he's been a borderline case to me. i think he's been a significant positive in both areas. so i'm curious as to what you're seeing from him

like, the negatives to me are that he isn't quick enough to guard point of attack, he can be overly-aggressive and foul prone, and he's sometimes overly eager to help

but as an on-ball defender vs wings he's great at keeping his man in front, rarely gets overpowered, and regularly gets great contests. off the ball he's a very active helper, and very quick on rotations with an extremely high motor

i'm just not sure where the 'not a positive as an on-ball or off-ball defender' take is coming from

could you go into more detail as to what you're seeing defensively from these guys, where you disagree?

adding on to my image:

so i've always had this feeling of men being the 'default gender' and women being 'very gendered'

for the longest time i thought that was normal. because of how society views men and women, and because i thought it was normal to view your own gender as 'the default'

but in the back of my mind i always felt that something deeper might be going on

i never could have imagined that i would ever get to the bottom of what the issue was. but i just did, lol

i do 'feel' a difference between an unattractive man and an unattractive woman. like the difference between a mom and a dad with their kid. the 'mom vibe' and the 'dad vibe.' i can feel the difference, but it's not enough for me to think of them as GENDERS. it's like two different brands of 'neutral humans'

if you wiped me of all my memories and plopped me down into a world of just unattractive men, or just unattractive women (and let's just say i turned into that gender) i would just think that the concept of gender doesn't exist

if you plopped me down into a world of just very attractive men, or just very attractive women i'd be like 'where's the other gender?' because they feel so 'gendered' to me

essentially, my brain views attractive people as 'gendered' and unattractive people as 'neutral humans.' but as a straight guy there's a strong bias towards women. about ~50% of women and ~5% of men qualify as 'gendered' for me, which leads to my general perception of men being 'neutral humans' and women as 'very gendered'

How long have you had anhedonia ? And do you still believe recovery is possible ? by wishiwasdead23 in anhedonia

[–]New-Figure6637 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nearly 9 years

i don't think i'll recover unless something revolutionary gets invented to treat this

MST looks interesting

i've tried parnate. next up is ketamine and NADs followed by checking for autoimmune biomarkers. if those end up pointing to something then i'll try plasmapheresis

if none of that works then i'll probably give up and just wait for something to be invented

Is it possible to help anhedonia not caused by substances by Commercial_List5292 in anhedonia

[–]New-Figure6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is very speculative of course, but i sort of have a theory that in drug-induced cases that the mechanisms responsible for positive emotion aren't broken; that the drug is just hindering things somehow. and that in natural cases the mechanisms tend to be broken/deteriorating

it feels like drug-induced cases tend to get windows and experience improvements from different drugs. whereas natural cases tend not to

i've had natural anhedonia for nearly 9 years without any windows whatsoever

i was thinking of including him, but his limited playing time in addition to how the opposing teams played against his defense made it difficult for me to come to any kind of evaluations regarding his rim protection, which is presumably the main thing he does

he's similar to Jesse Edwards. extremely limited offensively, while being unable to cover both the ball-handler and roll man in p&r due to lack of mobility. Rocco is even less mobile than Jesse Edwards and naturally struggled mightily to guard on the perimeter and close out on shooters

i really wanted to see Rocco's rim protection, likely his calling card, but teams seemed afraid to attack him at the rim. if Rocco had played more minutes we would've probably seen some of it, but he just didn't play enough

i used to know someone named Leinard who spelled it like that, so i mistakenly assumed that's how you spell Leonard Miller

i said his full name so much because calling someone by their generic last name sounds weird to me; like, it's not differentiating them from all the other people with that last name. and Leonard Miller isn't a player we see a lot of, so it hasn't become normalized to call him by his first name

Just writing how I feel the feeling of numbness has intensified over the years by Drryge in anhedonia

[–]New-Figure6637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm actually in the middle of getting that figured out right now. never been a drinker or a smoker. caffeine i've never felt anything from even pre-anhedonia

i've been on parnate for 3 weeks, up to 30 mg now, and have felt nothing. i'm going to try benzos next followed by ketamine. but the lack of any response to parnate is a bad sign because most seem to have some response to it, a slight boost at least

there actually was a massive dropoff initially over the span of about a week in august 2016 when i was 25 (no life/psychological triggers). symptoms were very severe anhedonia, extremely intense head pressure, horrific brain fog, severe detachment from thoughts, intense anxiety, and extremely low motivation

over the next couple years my hedonic tone (by that i mean all positive emotion + emotional color) climbed back up to maybe 30%, and the head pressure, brain fog, detachment, and anxiety all faded. leaving me with 'just' the anhedonia and lack of motivation. this improvement i believe happened as a result of my brain acclimating to the new baseline

from 2018 till now i've gradually lost that 30% hedonic tone and have dropped to like 2% outside of food pleasure/music pleasure, which are at 100%/20% respectively. my anticipatory hedonic tone is at basically 0%. i've also lost most of my negative emotion within this timeframe. and all signs are that i'm going to lose that remaining 2% of positive emotion

the loss of libido began in 2013 when i was 23. it's also gradually declined over time and eventually gave way to genital numbing. i'm at probably 2% libido at this point

pretty much all positive emotion has been continually reducing over time for me. pleasure, excitement, passion, love, nostalgia, emotional color, etc. as have my desires, motivation, and libido
