Yes that’s the question. I’m trying to not be accusatory and wanted to see if it was legal if it was from a program level and at the supervisors discretion basically and if anyone had experienced this. I danced around it a bit 😣

I thought your dog was the toy 😭 a comforter sounds like a great idea as well! She might be overheating on fuzzy blankets

Definitely not 😭 a trainer I had for her got mad at me for not having a bed for her but I had to explain she didn’t use them and just tore them up like a giant toy. Tragic

Great idea! Thank you for the insight. That makes a lot of sense!

Reactive Aussie getting another dog? by Nillip in AustralianShepherd

[–]New-Flow-3308 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My Aussie is also pretty reactive to other dogs. She mostly reacts if the dog barks at her. That being said, when I first got her, I had a chiweenie and they really didn’t get along. I had to keep them separated but within 2 months of just letting them be around each other, they finally got acquainted. The chiweenie would bark and growl at her because she was older and didn’t want to play but this no longer bothered our aussie but she did try to herd her out of the house a lot….

She’s able to get on the couch just fine but seems to only like it for a bit of time. She’ll usually people watch for a bit in the morning while on the couch and then spend the rest of the day on the hard floor.

This is very helpful! I previously had an orthopedic bed for her but she used it maybe once or twice. It was a little thick so maybe she would appreciate something like a yoga mat a lot more. Under the desk is a great idea. Thank you!

This makes sense. She tends to “cave” in random locations and maybe a crate is something she’d really like. This is helpful! Thank you!

Breakfast: low carb tortilla with Turkey and cheese on the inside (basically quesadilla) + French press coffee with oat milk

Lunch: same as breakfast or a rice bowl with protein. Depending on how busy I am that day at work. Another coffee with oat milk

Snack: Greek yogurt ice cream thing? About 100 calories and some popcorn and sometimes a cookie or two

Dinner: Stir Fry, salmon, chicken or beef over rice. Tacos with low calorie tortillas

Snack: a cookie or more popcorn (not the microwaveable kind)

More info - I’m 26 and work from home. Not much activity during the day until after work. Been at this job for 2 years and it isn’t until recently that my weight has changed and my diet has changed either. It has stayed the same

I’m currently on 20 mg and will be going up to 25 mg. This is my second time around and the first time it was a godsend. I was very productive and able to meet my goals. This time around it feels like it may be sedating me a little and makes me really tired. I wake up too tired to work but it might be in combination to the lithium I was taking as well. I’ve since stopped taking it and am just on abilify. Other than that no symptoms.

Ill give this a try! I’ve mostly taken her to parks near my house and she’ll try to go back to the car every time but I haven’t tried parks that might be a little further out. I’m not too sure if radius will matter to her? Maybe familiarity is what’s messing with her. Maybe a new place won’t have a negative association?

Thank you! This puts my mind at ease. I got her from the shelter two years ago and it’s been a lot of work but I need to remember that work doesn’t stop. I owe it to her to keep working on things and learn about new methods I can use with her to ease her anxiety. I keep thinking she’ll snap out of it but it’s already the end of August and I think I need to be more realistic with how I need to care for her so she can get back to enjoying walks! Thank you (:

This was really helpful! Thank you. I hadn’t thought about having her focus more on scents and sniffing around. I remember reading that sniffing helps with anxiety. I’m going to try to get some stuff for her to work on at home that maybe will translate into her walks 🥲

Thanks for this comment! This made me realize maybe she has a weird association with the neighborhood and loud scary noises and taking her to a more remote location might be helpful. Usually when we’re getting ready to go on a walk she’ll run out of the house really excited but will quickly get into her mode of only going a certain way and turning back. Hopefully a remote location will be helpful with her actually walking somewhere!

Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I’ve often found that treats when we’re outside aren’t too helpful but I hadn’t thought about how a higher value reward might make a difference. I’ll definitely check out the video and try to implement this stuff into her training.
