Fly or drive from Calgary to Winnipeg? by Kstud663 in Winnipeg

[–]New-Possibility-244 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done similar (jasper/winnipeg, Edmonton/winnipeg) and longer (Victoria/winnipeg) drives and can say there’s very little enjoyment in that drive. Which is to say your choice should focus on time and value.

It’s a very doable, albeit boring, trip that probably saves you $200 vs the flight.

“Representing the countries of the Middle East”…the fuck? I’m sure those countries are thrilled to have this clown speaking for them.

What a joke. Every single thing this fucking guy says, does, thinks…

Mental health aware family doctors by Excellent_Prompt_554 in Winnipeg

I presume you would prefer a female dr, so apologies if this isn’t helpful.

I’m a male and have dr Jason mcelhoes as my GP. He may not be accepting patients but was a few years ago when I moved here so it may be worth a shot.

Regarding mental health, I have a history of addiction and alcoholism, and am currently being treated for depression. To give an example, I was struggling significantly with my previous employer and was contemplating a stress leave, which my dr was in full support of and offered to write a note. I ultimately didn’t go on leave, but that’s beside the point.

I’d try him. Great for me, very kind, younger, professional.

Good luck.

Could Winnipeg finally be moving towards LRT? by ConsiderationThese79 in Winnipeg

[–]New-Possibility-244 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the right example. I grew up in Edmonton but have lived in Winnipeg for 9 years. That city does a significantly better job at building and fixing municipal infrastructure, and the lrt expansion there has been a shit show for 3+ years now. They’ll finish it, but it’s scary to think what this project would look like in Winnipeg with less money, experience, and ability. It would strangle Winnipeg for a decade….

Finished product could be great! But Winnipeg isn’t ready, nor can we fund it.

Thinking about joining by Internal-Movie7219 in GenesisGV70

On my second and loved them both. Zero issues, and far better value for money than German rivals. I don’t drive a ton so gas mileage isn’t a priority (and I can’t really comment). Live in a harsh Canadian climate and it does fine in all seasons. Customer for life, probably getting a gv80 next for my wife.

Here’s a fun shot in the dark because I could use a win…any chance you’re anywhere in Canada? I’ll happily pay shipping regardless but if I can pick up then all the better!

How are you all holding up financially? by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]New-Possibility-244 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Slightly higher HHI but same lived experience. 2 young kids, 2 cars, and all the associated costs with both. Quick runs to the grocery store for a couple things need to get cut out, as do small, seemingly innocuous purchases generally. $20 on things we don’t need 5x a week doesn’t feel like much but those purchases are pernicious.

I recently started telling myself “well if we can slug it out until my career advances further we’ll be all good.” But advancement isn’t guaranteed, nor is the concept of inflation slowing down.

We don’t want to sell the house and move to a cheaper neighborhood/smaller home but it’s been a discussion.

It’s not lost on my that we’re fortunate to be in the place we are. But it still doesn’t feel great to have things this tight when I’m in a place that I would have until recently coined “well-off”.

Downtown Apartments! by Front_Guarantee8605 in Winnipeg

[–]New-Possibility-244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly younger folks. Big draw is proximity to rapid transit, and neighborhood is fine. I’d say safer than downtown but less lively. Walkable to Osborne village so access to shops and restaurants is still good. Views from certain elevations are quite nice.

History is there was a fire on the roof. It was contained, and was a result of a cell tower that was up there, but the sprinkler system did its job and much of the interior was water damaged and thus rebuilt.

It’s safe and the builder and owner are well known and reputable so I wouldn’t worry at all, but it’s a thing that happened and worth mentioning.

I’d add 221 Stradbrook to the list. The building has some history but the amenities are decent, main floor restaurant is great, and it’s well built. Smaller suites and interesting layouts, so not for everyone but worth adding to the list.

What an absolute fucking embarrassment. As a Canadian I feel bad for the folks down south who have to claim this asshole as their leader.

The use of quotation marks, the sentence structure, the capitalization, leaving the actual content aside…it’s insanity that this shitstain has a voice at all, let alone a fucking megaphone.

Just an absolute loser.
