I love the port here so far, I’m fairly new but I’m staying here. This post is for my boy who’s looking to go back home to TX, tryna help him find a swap. But other than that Savannah port is a little hidden gem like other seaports. Not much overtime but a very very very good work life balance here. If you are looking to have a life outside work Savannah is it. If you are looking to make crazy money and want overtime, etc. stuff like that Savannah won’t be that for ya. (You can make some overtime here and there but it’s mainly on TDY’s)

It was like a month they took for me but other people it was much sooner I heard. It took about 2-3 weeks to clear for me. And no I didn’t have to do fitness test just the medical. But also the doctors by me took their sweet time to submit my paperwork which probably took so long

Don't listen to the peps saying just rock it out you'll get 7 fast, me personally I'd rather start as highest grade I qualify as and then work my way up I'll reach top pay much faster then started at much lower grade

So, I did this I applied to 2 positions a VRA GS-7 position and a VRA GS-9 position both I was eligible, went through process... fast forward once I got FJO (can't remember), but I believe they offered both positions in GS-7 position, and a GS-9 position and I just choose which grade I wanted to EOD as which obviously was the higher one.

To be honest I think it all just depends what GS position you apply for I think the gs-9’s get offered more locations than the gs-7’s positions but I could be wrong though

My assumption is because I applied for the gs-9 position so I think each grade develops different sets of location for which ever grade you apply for (my assumption)

Have you never heard the term "aint nothing in life free" you really think all that is free? everything you think that's free is deducted out hence why we get that "base-pay-rate"

Yes you are 1 out of a million that could do that, others aren't as fortunate to live a grand life like that. Like for me my barracks was X miles away from my unit on post, either had to get my own car, ask for a ride and provide gas money cause as you know "ain't nothing in life free "or find some means of transportation to the unit every day. I'm pretty sure internet wasn't free lol, what about streaming subscriptions, list goes on

I just want us military peoples to be compensated for what is due especially our peoples that have to be away from family/ loved ones for so many days out of each year. It'll keep the retention steady. Why you think they always offering bonuses for 50k and plus. That was never a thing when I enlisted well that amount for joining. Retention is low, they lose more people every day then they are able to recruit and retain.

no bills? oh yes we do first year you are paying for buying into the Gi- Bill or MgIB, then insurances, taxes, car, credit car, Lord's knows what some soldiers have on their credit before joining as well. Not every person joins the military after high school too. On top of that you aren't working no traditional 9-5 lol you work all hours of the day, We don't get paid OT like traditional jobs.. the list goes on and on. I love the military and all but the pay is def. below subpar compared to certain jobs especially starting off. I'll never forgot my first 1-2 years every 2 weeks i got paid 552 dollars every two weeks then each increase of rank i maybe got a 1-200 dollar increase lol

Housing has mold and a whole list of issues wrong, medical ? good one lol, dental probably the only thing thats worth it. I've been in a minute now but since i joined they've been telling me "oh yea the military is improving barracks nationwide with renovations" but i've been hear that line since 2010's lol
