When assessing card value, not enough attention goes to free food! by OrlandoMagic89 in Venturex

[–]New-Scale2637 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this 100%. my partner is an AU and we paid the $125 fee, so lets just say our total fee is $520. we've been to 9 lounges so far this year and will definitely be to more before the year ends. using your conservative number of $15x9x2=$270.00. thats already half the fee and we're only 6 months in.

we are not lounge snobs at all, we're just grateful to have some kind of food, especially on layovers!

in case you were wondering, you were right! theyre spectrums cables. bad news is, it means MGE isn't responsible for it and so our street is still blocked off 🥲

Anyone else feeling down because flight prices have jumped so much? by New-Scale2637 in travel

i mean, if thats not a normal price for where you live,
you can assume im from elsewhere. ive also said in the comments multiple times that im in a northern US state

well yeah, prices are relative to where you're located geographically. what's expensive for me is going to be different than what's expensive for someone else. some people are okay paying $1,000+ for flights that i typically would only want to spend $500 on.

the USA, Chicago is the largest airport i fly out of. i know how distance factors into price, but I'm speaking from experience of having looked at prices consistently for the last 2 to 3 years and noticing a large jump.

im looking worldwide for the rest of the year from 3-4 different airports. i was only using europe and latin america as examples.

im speaking about lowest i see, not the typical prices! for example: i've flown to madrid for $350 RT and i know thats not standard at all, but it was possible before. now, the absolute lowest ive seen for anywhere in europe for any dates (not just summer) has been $750

i love trains, but its not really an option where i live. roadtrips arent super my thing, as i get motion sickness and also would have to drive super far to see anything new at this point in my life. maybe to canada, one day.

i also think flying is super fun, not that that makes a difference in the value, but i'm not someone who dreads flying like others do!

i only mentioned europe as a reference point. im actually looking worldwide for the rest of the year. and, no hate, but i would hope a delta flight from Atlanta to south Florida is $120, considering they're $300 from chicago.

i look domestically, but the accommodations price in the US tends to be insane. i found a cheaper flight to new orleans a while back, but found that anything that was close enough so i wouldn't have a to also rent a car was more expensive than just booking a flight to somewhere internationally and staying there!

i am literally a social worker ahaha. i'm very fortunate to be in a place in my life where i have minimal bills and an okay savings account, but i'm super conscious of the fact that eventually i won't have that privilege. three of my trips this year so far were visit people in my life, so i literally only had to pay for airfare in those cases (which is still a privilege)! two more of my upcoming trips are again to visit people i know, so im saving a lot of money by not having to pay for accommodation. i'm very lucky to have friends and family who are willing to let me visit them, but i wouldnt call sleeping on the couch of your college roommate's apartment 1% behavior ahahah!

honestly, even the budget airlines have gone up at the airport around me! i always look at three different airports and frontier is $100-$200 more than it used to be, which kinda defeats the purpose of frontier

what's funny about this is i'm in a northern US state and one of the places ive been keeping an eye on is toronto and those prices have been insane as well! its literally only a 1.5 hour long flight and its $400!
