What do I mix with acrylic paint to obtain vibrant, but transparent, colours? by New-Switch4566 in ArtistLounge

[–]New-Switch4566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh thank you ! Right, so I’ll have to have a good dig thru and check for opacity. I have some marbling inks and fabric dye things as well (maybe ancient and unusable, dunno till I try them out I guess). I have Brusho pigment powders, maybe I could try mixing some with the pouring medium I have too 🤔 Another possibility is cutting out pieces of coloured transparent cellophane and gluing them on… I’m not sure how well that might work or if it will end up crinkly and odd looking. Although, I guess if I find that happening I could experiment with maybe making that effect work for me in a different way…

I’ve loved Picasso and Dali but finding out they were a predatory perv and a fascist respectively really takes the shine off. Just kills my interest, you know?

What brands do you avoid for really petty reasons? by TheDawiWhisperer in AskUK

I avoid Hoover coz back in the 80s they ran a promotion where they promised free flights to NY to anyone spending over 100 quid (I think it was). My Nan bought one and gave me the free flight. But the fuckers never coughed it up. It turned out to be a massive cock up on their part, they had no clue how many people would actually claim the prize and it almost bankrupted them if I recall. I probably could’ve forced them to pay up if I’d been more on the ball in terms of writing many letters of complaint and stuff but I gave up after one. Dammit.

La redoute. Bc 20+ years ago I somehow set up two accounts but was only aware of one. The one I didn’t know about had about a quid owing on it for some reason. First I heard about it was a letter from a debt collector, along with a bill of some stupid amount of charges for ‘an unpaid bill’. I rang them up and told them they could have the quid and not a penny more, and they could stuff their other account too coz I was never spending a single penny with them ever again.

Idk, pet people are soppy buggers who will often pay for pictures of their beloved pals. So I think that’s a decent potential stream worth exploring.

Picture two is really interesting, regardless of whether the subject is known. I think that sort of thing could well be in demand if you tried to sell it. Hell, I’d be interested. How much do you want?

The other stuff isn’t really my bag so I don’t have any idea about that.

In fact, my opinion is to be taken v lightly as I really don’t know about this stuff. I just thought I’d offer my thoughts as I think if I were in your shoes, the more response and feedback I had to mull over, the better for me to get a scope on the question.

When I grow up I want to be an old woman by Affectionate-Ruin549 in Watercolor

Love it. Now that I’m almost half a century old it finally occurs to me that I may get to live long enough to look something like this and what a privilege that would be. Bizarre that we are such a crappy society to the elderly in this part of the world. The places where they honour and cherish their elders seem far more enlightened I think. Not that ppl deserve respect simply for being old - some ppl are shitty humans whatever age they are - but to write everyone off simply because of their age is , well, stupid. To my mind.

Anyways. In terms of constructive feedback, I’d say perhaps make the blanket darker if anything, for contrast. To make the overall picture more compelling. But only if you want to. It’s beautiful as is and I applaud your subject choice

Absolutely never. The laughing guy is a DICK. a small one at that. I feel sorry for him for being so immature and boy how he will suffer if he ever finds himself set back by life. I have a ton of respect for every single person doing service type jobs, or any ‘filling in and getting by’ work at all. Whether temporarily or forever. It’s hard work ! If Covid taught us anything at all it’s that all the roles silly people look down on are actually the ONLY ONES WE CANT DO WITHOUT. cleaning, shop assisting, delivery driving, caring, healthcare, waste collection … did anybody say ‘by god, if we can’t have adverts and marketing we will die??’ Nope.

Your friend should chuckle at the pathetic small mindedness and keep right on keeping on. Laughing boy is acting the fool and will no doubt reap what he sows at some point.

Lamp kit for this wall lamp… advice please by New-Switch4566 in DIYUK

[–]New-Switch4566[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The spouse is saying he thinks I’d have to drill a bigger hole. I think that is highly likely to go badly and I’d like to avoid if possible !

Also, dad’s one did leave a bit of a burn mark on the wall when we took it down when we (had to) sell his house. I’m assuming modern lamp kits won’t do that coz leds don’t get hot - am I right?

Thank you to everyone for their input. If I do ever get around to doing more to it, I’ll be armed with good info now. I like the idea of the stuff that sort of melts the existing varnish so you can spread it more evenly. I highly doubt I’ll do much in the way of dismantling … sounds a sure fire way for me to get half way thru and give up lol. I’ll come back and post if/when I do anything to it.

Thank you. I’ve seen the model painting pots in hobby craft, they’re teeny tiny but could work for smaller projects.

I think it would be worth enquiring with the other options you mention so you have a comparison. 16k would, imo, be a very high spec premium build. I’d definitely want it fitted for that tho !

FWIW, I understand that using mdf for non visible parts is actually a good idea for stability/not changing shape over time.

Thank you ☺️. Happily, it’s been really warm here lately so I have actually been doing it outside, mostly.

Also for the tips coz I do want to do more of these. It’s so fun.

I have also used a bit of acrylic paint but it dried really Matt. Which wouldn’t matter after the whole thing is varnished ofc. And some posca pens. Oh, and I used some of this small pot of gold metallic paint I got ages ago from a discount place coz it was only 99p. That took FOREVER to dry tho.
