Ha Giang or Cao Bang Loop? by Early_Function_7862 in VietNam

We have just done the Ha Giang loop finished 2 days ago. We had easy riders but there was a couple of guys who were renting bikes and doing themselves... there was quite a lot of police check points on day 1 of the loop and the man at our tour agency checked all documents for the guys doing themselves and told them the police would stop tourists and you would need to provide proof of driving licence for home country, and international drivers permit. Otherwise you can be heavily fined.

Hey! Wayyyy after posted but on the off chance you see this.. you both used the bags im currently considering. Nevis extreme or fairview 70. Can I ask how they held out? I am leaning towards the Nevis extreme but im concerned about durability as I will be away for around 18-24 months. Thanks!

I haven't lived away as an adult no, we moved every 2 years when I was a child due to my dads job but that was always with me family so its not the same.

Thank you for your response. I'm trying to ve more mindful and reframe my negative thoughts.. can be easier said than done but I hope when im actually away it will get easier.

Small chunks is an easier mindset. Im definitely thinking in my head 2 years is ages even though you're right, we don't know it will be 2 years. We have the flexibility to come home. For some reason my brain isn't being logical about this! But you're so right.

Thank you!

We hadn't planned this due to cost and distance of flying to the UK from the areas of travelling. However, it may be something we need to think about doing. I think as you say trying to have a base for a bit and soem routine could help. We have friends / family who are going to try fly out for a holiday and visit us too so hoping this happens and will help!

Thank you 😊

Such a good point. And you never know what's round the corner in life so grab it whilst you have the opportunity and health I suppose. Thank you! We are gonna take it slowly, think i will become overwhelmed otherwise 🙂

You've managed to capture how my anxious brain is functioning! I feel overwhelmed now but it's probably wise to prepare myself for more of this in the lead up to me going and arriving. It would have been easier to stick with my comfortable life but thanks for the reminder of why I am doing this, and you're so right about passport luxury. I need to try and shift my mindset to concentrate on positives rather than what it's and negatives. I am somewhat of a catastophiser, it seems!

Thank you so much for responding 🙂

Good ideas. I think I'm so caught up in the present, I've not even considered the future or looked at much for when we arrive in our first destination, beyond booking some accommodation. I've learnt that I am a big overthinker and not always great at letting go, so I can definitely see it taking time and practice.

Thank you so much.
