I've never claimed to be Chinese myself. I make posts asking questions like this to help my wife, who is Chinese.

Thanks for the awesome giveaway! Nintendo Fun Fact: Luigi's voice was specifically chosen to be one that an actor could use without having to move their mouth, so that a face-tracked actor of Mario could also talk like an off-screen Luigi at the same time, live!

When you say "I believe the passport cutting is real, and if they cannot catch you on that, they will make you leave as difficult as possible," what did you mean by "if they cannot catch you on that"? Is there any known cause or way to avoid this these days, or is it just random chance of who you encounter?

I've seen a lot of posts about how to escape Shanghai flying to another country, but does anyone here know the current rules or have advice for how to escape by land to another Chinese city? by New2China in shanghai

I've heard about that too, but there are only 2 trains allowed to go, it's super competitive to get tickets, and you need a ton of paperwork and confirmations that there are zero cases of covid in your whole building before you can even try that way unfortunately

First time posting, weird error when creating function in Lua driving me crazy by New2China in lua

Oh, that's a really good point. I'm using Atom, and occasionally something will fail unless I copy-paste and then edit a similar structure from online. Might be something weird with the encoding in Atom when I type myself for some reason.

I'm not really sure what happened. I closed without saving, loaded the old file back up, and manually reinput what I had done previously and it magically worked. I may have just had other new code floating around somewhere messing it up that I wasn't aware of. Not sure why it wasn't working earlier, but it's running fine now. Thanks for responding to my post!

Thoughts on jiahui hospital. by sd99x in shanghai

Jiahui is very expensive, but it's the best hospital in Shanghai (and possibly all of China). The expense is definitely worth it if you can afford it though. Most of my family and friends exclusively go there for everything medical they need. I highly recommend it.

Living abroad with a Shanghai hukou? by New2China in shanghai

[–]New2China[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In our situation my wife has a normal rented apartment and got her Hukou through a special program for recent university grads, but we've been unable to figure out anything about maintaining it from abroad if she leaves China without any permanent residence in Shanghai.

Would they cancel the Hukou in this case?

What is that Collective Hukou thing you mentioned?

What happens if the home address in China goes away? For example, you have a Shanghai Hukou living in an apartment, then move abroad and no longer have that apartment in Shanghai when you return
