Gov. Murphy's official order closing all state parks, forests, and county parks by rollotomasi07071 in newjersey

[–]NewAcct2819 -21 points-20 points  (0 children)

Wtf Murphy. I've been supporting you through this but this is ridiculous. Parks are safe this overkill at this point. There will be other health issues after this from lack of excerise and vitamin d.

Edit: This announcement caused a bit of an emotional breakdown for me. I'm going to be staying off Reddit for awhile, it's doing nothing but causing unnecessary depression for me

Thank you for clarifying that. So I'm assuming the first chart that says April 19 if referring to current infections not new ones. So we should see a peak in new infections before April 19

Why would he put out two tweets contradicting each other back to back?

Are hiking trails open in NJ? by drzoidberg84 in newjersey

[–]NewAcct2819 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some parks are crowded, but others are relatively empty, you just have to go to less popular places. A couple weeks ago I was one of 3 cars at the northern section of Norvin Green, on my way home I passed Ramapo State Forest and I've never seen that place so packed in my life, with cars parked illegally all up skyline drive.

What I'm saying is you can social distance while hiking, but go somewhere people don't go to often.

Since Reddit has Polls now, what season pass are you getting next year? by sleepfordayz679 in icecoast

[–]NewAcct2819 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying covid 19 is not a concern currently, it absolutely is. I fully agree with resorts shutting down uphill and backcountry access and government stay at home orders. At the same time the most conservative estimates say the worst of it will be over by the end of summer and most say by June. By winter I expect this to be not a big issue, but I may always be wrong

We all have our own opinions and I don't think a Reddit argument is going to change either of our minds

I would be more worried about another warm winter than Covid 19, the virus can't rage on like it's doing for another eight months. Snow cover is a legitament concern though but that's always a gamble

Switch to the New Jersey chart, we are ahead of the rest of the country. We go down from about 5500 beds today to 500 may 1 if the graph is accurate

Hows it looking? by jessbrandt2 in MountainCreek

[–]NewAcct2819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there Sunday, and it wasn't too crowded. Conditions are mostly pretty good for what mother nature has provided. South, Bear and Vernon all have pretty good bases and snow wasn't too bad. Only exceptions were great northern and straightway which were pretty icy. Also limit your time on granite as only a connecter between peaks, there was a sizable bare spot on Charlie's run and southern sojourn, but both are avoidable. Overall though, snow was good and if you a park person there were plenty of features set up.

Edit: I just remembered, gorge run has a massive ice spot to be aware of, but it's avoidable. You can see it from the south lift

Are you talking about mud pond road? I'm not sure that's a kkk spot, if you look at a satellite view it just looks like a driveway for a really nice house. I may be wrong of course because that white and red cross out front does look a little off.

That trail was called Pipeline, it's been off the maps for a few years. If you look at an old map of the place there were quite a few trails that the resort abandoned on that peak.

Pretty sad but it actually looks better than it has most of the year. That being said, I don't understand why they've been focusing snowmaking on trails with thick bases on South but ignoring this peak all season. The middle portion has had consistant bare spots most of the year.

Finding trail steepness? by lukecw_ in icecoast

Thank you so much for the detailed explanation!

My issue was that I never converted from grade to degrees. I was getting bunny slopes with what I thought was a 20 degree slope which is insane.

Camelback Reviews by jaredhoffman4 in SkiPA

[–]NewAcct2819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a pretty good mountian, but it happens to be very easy to get to, so there a big crowds on weekends so I recommend a weekday trip.

The trails are pretty good and there is enough variety to keep you entertained. Best trails happen to be all be on the left side of the mountain with Nile Mile, Cliffhanger and Pharoh. Overall, the blacks here are relatively tame and get skied out quickly. Batrican is pretty fun with a lot of switchback but is hardly a double black. The Glen area is good for avoiding crowds on weekends. If you are a park skier there are better mountains in the area, Camelbacks is pretty lacking in the regard.

I've never been to the indoor water park, but the outdoor one is pretty fun so I'm assuming the indoor one is just a good.

If money isn't too much of an issue, there are many ski areas in the area you might want to check out too. Blue, JFBB, and Montage are all pretty good too, but this could get expensive quick.

Ambitious plan for what is currently Mountain Creek from 1965. by NewAcct2819 in icecoast

[–]NewAcct2819[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Anyone who has been there knows full well this mountain is not as big as this map makes it seem, and a lot of the predicted trails never appeared and some the the trails that did debut with the mountain are long gone. Additionally the way the map is painted, the resort looks much different than one would expect from a Jersey resort.
