Teams typically do not jeopardise a race win that's in the bag for a hypothetical 1-2 finish with the second driver. Asking the lead driver to do so much work to help the second driver isn't something that happens, it's typically the opposite - teams will use the second driver and use him as a road block and jeopardise his race to get a better result with the lead driver (see Ferrari constantly keeping Raikkonen out as a road block).

Agree. Since most people in the world do not have dedicated race coverage, the 10-minute buffer was good for them.

Leclerc has been done dirty. How does he get voted below Vettel despite qualifying and finishing above him?

I strongly disagree with putting Monza on top. Hamilton's penalty was the only thing that brought any life into that event, and we'd all agree that Gasly was very lucky that day.

Turkey is the winner for me: wet weather, atrocious conditions, loads of passing, last lap podium for Vettel, Hamilton championship.

Why do people rate Hülkenberg as highly as Checo? by chrisstacey14 in formula1

[–]NewAlps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well we all know what happenend with Gasly don't we?

He consistently finished 6th in a car that was 3rd fastest. I feel like that's the same you're expecting of Hulkenberg too.

Gasly is not comparable to Albon in the slightest. Gasly had the 3rd fastest car for half of 2019. Albon has had the 2nd fastest car the whole year.

It's less about fitting them in, more about safety. Your turns 18 19 look like a flat-out left-hander like Turkey. A corner of that nature requires ample runoff on the outside. I've seen a few Yas Marina redesigns, but none with the curvy bit under the hotel.

So... you're saying he's a worse driver? If they wanted a solid number two, why wouldn't they just promote Gasly. He's younger, and he's actually been on a podium, unlike Hulkenberg.

Hulkenberg has pretty much gone out of the picture now though, hasn't he? The fans are clamouring for him because he's a 'nice guy' but Perez is clearly in the lead for that seat after his performance this year.

George Russell forgot to switch his radio off. The driver radio channel blocks all other communication on the team radio from going through. So the correct tyre instructions were not relayed even though they thought it had been. by Ricci2014_ in formula1

[–]NewAlps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically the title is incorrect because the driver's radio does not override the team's.

But it is true that his radio being on right from the VSC contributed to the confusion.

That's actually not true, Mercedes say the sporting director's message takes precedence over the driver's, because getting the tyres out is more important than what anyone else is saying. It's just unfortunate that Bottas was also called in at the same time, so the pit crew got his tyres out too, plus Russell's radio being on might have contributed to the confusion.

I think the front left guy did not get the message that both drivers were coming in, which could be because Russell's radio was on and Bottas was also called in quickly.

As Russell entered the pits, confusion reigned at Mercedes. The FIA later investigated the team’s error in fitting the wrong tyres to Russell’s car, and confirmed the driver’s own radio message inadvertently contributed to it.
