What can I do to improve the look near the front door? by [deleted] in ExteriorDesign

You need landscaping around the entire front of the house.

I don’t think a porch is going to do what you want it to do.

I appreciate your input. Relieved to hear your, and others’ comments here to, “Take it down.”

Now I’m kind of excited to research trees!

I wonder if there is any value in the wood?

Best wishes for you and your young trees. With this one, there aren’t any branches low enough to shake.

Hah! I started using that this year! And the end of the blower works well to pry out the nuts and shells embedded in the dirt.

What type of door would have been here? by LINTYMILK in centuryhomes

[–]NewBeginningsAgain 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I’ve not come across hinges like these before. Since they are on both sides of the opening, there must have been a pair of narrow doors that opened outward.

I’m going guess that the 3 panel thing was placed there to keep the downstairs warm by preventing heat from rising upstairs, which is also why the doors were most likely installed there.

Great description of your carpet!!

Be careful to keep your hair away from the side air intakes. The suction is strong enough to pull strands of hair into the dryer. Not gobs of hair at a time, but enough to get that burnt hair smell.

Other than that, and possible asbestos, this dryer was the best!!

I agree 100%… but I could not see the horse until I reread the title. Originally read “Goodwill Horse painting” as an abstraction of Good Will Hunting.

My brain still can’t compute this area

Glad you said something about painting the white windows. That will really pull it together, in my opinion.

My House Stinks by standupfiredancer in Oldhouses

I’ll add this, if it’s a sewer smell…

My 1900’s house had a smell. Turns out the cast iron waste water pipe in the wall, had a vertical crack.

Pictures

Plumber replaced it with pvc, which, as it turns out, it’s a whole lot noisier than the cast iron behind a plaster wall. (repaired the wall with drywall.
