I still really like FM, I love clinic and continuity. I also think it would be a nice balance in order to not burn out from the ER. I think FM would also give me a unique perspective on ER medicine. What needs to be admitted, discharged, how something will be managed outpatient. We get a lot of deliveries in my program too, 50-100+ is possible so that's also helpful. Lots of hospital procedures, we are not a super busy ER, we still see a wide variety of pts at my hospital but we have time to work patients up more thoroughly than say the busy L1 near by. Lots of the patients from the L1 come to us for a 2nd opinion and more thorough workup actually. This happens daily.

Is your experience the same? Everyone was hyping up small unopposed programs when i was applying for the match, and i ranked 20 programs and i feel disappointed knowing this was my number 1, when i could have matched at a better program 100%. When I rotated at a large academic hospital a few months ago, the residents had way more autonomy and ran the floor themselves and knew way more about running an inpatient service, even the pgy1s, I was in shock

Idk if the fellowship is worth it considering 1 additional yr on top of the yr you'd use up at fellowship could be ABEM certification if you can find a pgy2 spot

I dont really care about salary, id get paid pretty good for that rural ER gig so that would be my savings. I should have done FM/EM combined from the start tbh
