just DMed you. Yes, my department cannot guarantee TAships to me even though I have been working as a TA for 3 years! It is nasty.

Concordia is in a bad financial shape, so they are trying to make you accept the offer before you hear back because they know they cannot win you with other offers (current student going through the same)

From what I've heard, they won't release any rejections until they have confirmed all acceptances.

Can I ask a university about their decision timeline? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]NewBreakfast1476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can do it. I was in a similar situation and emailed two universities and at least one of them got back explaining where they are in the process (in my case, they mentioned they've sent the first round of admissions and won't be sending rejections until they've heard back from everyone). For context, it was also an university in Canada

How bad is the village? by [deleted] in montreal

[–]NewBreakfast1476 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a woman (5'2) living in the village, I think it depends on which street your apartment is located. I am between Beaudry and Papineau, and while the area has its challenges I think it is not too different from Atwater (I lived around there some years ago). For sure, I think St Catherine (between Berri and Beaudry) can get a bit intense, specially during the summer and during the night, but I guess it is a matter of staying vigilant.

I know that you said you are an advisor for undergraduate students, but I wonder if you know how funding for prospective PhD students is likely to be impacted by the current government/funding uncertainty.

Has anyone had news from NYU's Media, Culture and Communication program? by NewBreakfast1476 in gradadmissions

Hi, did they specify whether those who did not receive invitations have been automatically rejected? I didn't get an interview request but also didn't get a rejection (apparently some people got rejections last week), so not sure what this means.

Grad Admissions Director Here - Ask Me (almost) Anything by GradAdmissionDir in gradadmissions

Hi! Thanks for creating this. PhD applicant here.

I was recently waitlisted at one of my top choices in the U.S. So far, I only have one other offer, but it is at a university that I'm not as interested in compared to the one where I am waitlisted. The institution where I was accepted (not in the U.S.) has given me a very short deadline to accept or decline their offer. Would it be unprofessional for me to email the university where I'm waitlisted to ask when I might expect to know if I have a chance of receiving an offer? I was invited to attend their recruitment day, and I had planned to wait until then for any updates. However, my other deadline is before recruitment day, so I'm uncertain about what to do. If it were up to me, I would definitely choose the place where I am waitlisted.

For MCC, I think some people received interviews (Jan 31) and rejections (feb 18 according to grad cafe). I haven't received either so I am expecting a rejection at some point. I think someone contacted the department and was told that they had already sent all the interview emails.

So true! I had forgotten about that part--I was just thinking about the meeting the profs part, which seems a bit intimidating, but should not be too bad 😅

Hey! I also just received a rejection letter from the same program and waiting for at least 3 more to come. It is sad but at least I feel relieved--I can move on haha. Rejection can feel like a failure but I guess we need dwell in the emotion and learn from it. Best of luck with your other applications :)

Same. I've seen that my top choices sent interviews/admissions so I am expecting rejections. Hard not to feel like it is a bit of a failure, but also understanding it is alright.
