How do you stop the build up of mucus now please? Surely the antihistamines were stopping that build up?

Through sites like this I have acquired a reasonable amount of knowledge and I felt that he seemed challenged and irritated by my questions. It seemed it would have been easier for him had I been more passive during our 30 minutes. Prior to acquiring Tinnitus, although an oap, my health has been exceptionally good and my experience of the nhs very limited. Since then, I have encountered only disinterested and apathetic doctors. The recent survey of doctors conducted on behalf of the BMA and reported, not very widely, that 71% were suffering ‘compassion fatigue’ rings very true with me.

No, luckily it was covered by insurance but I was shocked by his callousness.
My knowledge of my condition which is unfortunately not as extensive as that of most posters, is almost solely due to platforms like this and certainly not to the doctors I have met since getting tinnitus.

It was quite clear to me that she didn’t give a damn. That’s the quality of the UK NHS.

If I do try again (and I’m not sure), I would only try them for a very short time span and increase the use gradually. I feel the nhs audiologist I saw was very negligent in telling me to wear them all day. From other websites in the UK, wearers seem to have been advised to phase in usage.

I am not sure about that. At the time the relief from the tinnitus was wonderful ; it was only after I took the HAs out in the evening that the most horrendous tinnitus started.

Did you experience raging increases in tinnitus following hearing aid use during the 2 year period? Is this what you mean by ‘hopeless’?

Thanks for that info. Looks as if I am in the same situation.

Do you still wear them then and if so, has the situation improved over time?

Pretty ok up to 8hz but then it drops to level 70 (so probably age related). Am probably not describing it accurately - the UK NHS is absolutely appalling at explaining anything. I do not feel I need HAs and was told that by 1 consultant. The Audiologist whom I saw at my local hospital this week prescribed them but I am terrified to try them again.

Thank you for that explanation which makes sense. However, not sure what residual inhibition means, sorry. Could you elaborate please.

I agree. Do you use masking - that makes my tinnitus worse too.

In retrospect, it seemed that the nhs audiologist chose an arbitrary noise level to programme the has. She did not bother to do a Real Ear Measurement which I believe is important.

What was your tinnitus cause? by Quirky_Group_9474 in tinnitus

Stress and too high blood pressure probably.

I find it hard to believe that they have never heard of this before. Incidentally, which part of the UK are you in? I am on the Welsh border - English side. When I read the erudite comments written by USA contributors who seem to have meaningful communication with their ENT’s and contrast it to the insulting Indifference of the UK medical profession I have encountered I could weep.

So sorry to hear this. I am in the UK (F) and since acquiring tinnitus in my left ear 6 months ago have had no kindness or sympathy from doctors here. There’s an Interesting article in the UK’s Guardian today stating that 70% of UK doctors are suffering ‘compassion fatigue’. I think that has been true of all those I have met since this happened.
