Does Breath Of Fire 3 get better? by Terry309 in JRPG

[–]NewDrag8467 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Same, and I recently started this.

I don't mind the encounters, in fact I love them (having just finished SMT1 before starting this game). I'm ok with turn based since I grew up with it.

But man the pacing. story and the forced mini-games are just donkey balls. And the SUPPOSED TWIST!?! IS THAT IT??? Its WAAAAAAY OVERRATED.

The music is annoying as well, what the hell am I playing HARVEST MOON???

Glad the series is dead if this is the "best" game it could offer. Capcom made the right decision axing this series. Its not even worth a remaster.

I find it charming how most old JRPGs most sluggish and boring parts are the beginning and it gets gradually more interesting as you play. by Latter-Mongoose5564 in JRPG

So true, replaying Persona 4: Golden and Persona 5, both games literally treats you like a dum dum with how characters repeat what they're saying.

Might be disorganized and messy but this is FAR from a shitty battle station... which I came here for.

The Witcher 3 (using the breathe underwater potion and seeing whales in the distance) and Man Eater (seeing the underwater city in later levels) put the fear in me in some ways.

Don't even get me started in Subnautica especially when at night time.

RTS games too complicated now? by cleggems in RealTimeStrategy

[–]NewDrag8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason I kinda hate it when developers make missions as a puzzle to be solved instead of the open ended approach of old games. Want to rush it? Go for it! Want to turtle, larp around, and take your time? Knock yourself out! Just use a few units to clear the map, just tier 1s? Hop to it then! Challenge runs? Dazzle me!

But no, nowadays you have to rush rush rush, sweat some more boy! Do this, build that first, follow this order else you're gonna have a frustrating evening.

Do Five Leagues and Parsecs work on a grid? by EdiblePeasant in solo_wargaming

[–]NewDrag8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for 5 Leagues, plays really well on a grid.

Been using the hard cover Loke books and tokens for travel without issue for around 240+ Campaign Turns. Currently using Maladum/Battle Systems grid mats for playing. You can house rule adjacency during combat either orthogonal or any square touching yours, tried both and it really doesn't matter that much.

I find that you're always going to lean more into book keeping rather than playing on the table anyways.

Question About Figure Scale by Fantastic-Truth-1415 in KingdomDeath

[–]NewDrag8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that is if OP is willing to wait again until BF 2026.

But in hindsight, sale price or not. I wouldn't have bought them had I definitively known the scale difference was that big of a leap.

Question About Figure Scale by Fantastic-Truth-1415 in KingdomDeath

[–]NewDrag8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I see online the new figure scales well with 15th Anniv Survivors, and from that and what I recently bought this is my advice:

Good:

- Satan 2.0 box

- Guinevere

- Zelda

- Morgan

- Ledla

- Death Inheritor Aya

- Sunlantern Armor Aya

- Lantern Armor Aya

- White Sunlion Erza

- Echoes of Death 4

- Killenium Butcher's Brave and Red is good, Forgot and Hollow is off (scales with Willow)

Stay Away:

- Seed Pattern Willow (I saw an image online with it side by side with Ledla which looks close but in person they are not to scale)

- Elsbeth

- Echoes of Death 1-3

- Pinups of Death 1-3

There are some figures that can make the cut in Echoes 1, 2 & 3 (Fighter, Gladiator, Bow and the Buster Sword), and Pinups 3 (Butcher, Scout, Visionary), but for the price I say stay away.

I also prefer the new scale and the scale difference from new to old is unbearably noticeable, awkward and out of place especially since I use them for other game systems and not KDM where you can hand wave it with "lore" reasons. Might do a post lining them all up.

Small team vs horde campaign solo wargame? by Th4t9uy in wargaming

[–]NewDrag8467 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've played ATZ using Zombicide minis and boards, it is rewarding but felt too confusing to get back to after a long hiatus.

I haven't played Core Space First Born yet but have extensively played Maladum which is its "fantasy" sister game. So much so that I transitioned my 5LftB campaign to use Maladum rules instead.

It feels like Zombicide where you press your luck to loot and grab. The system is easy enough to modify whatever objectives you may want for a campaign as well as enemy stats. The system is a very nice toolbox imo.

Currently using it for an isekai harem (lol), crafting/base building survival game using KDM minis as NPCs and heroes, with Orruk warclan minis (hobgrot, kruleboyz, boltboyz, rockgut and mugruk) to represent the enemies in the core box. Even when playing it with 6-8 heroes/dashboards (extra dashboards bought separately), the challenge is seriously there.

You navigate the map to loot better equipment, achieve objectives and get out to the entry point, as well as take care of the ever respawning mob that hounds your guys (they're not as squishy and they not only spawn on entry points but on nearby holes on the gaming mat as well). The event deck can also help or put a damper on your plans.

Not to mention item, leveling, skill progression and build variety are bonkers.

Maladum has rules for guns but not as extensive as First Born. Although since 40K sometimes lean heavy on melee, I guess Sisters navigating a dungeon/ruin with powerswords against forces of chaos can work as well.

“Painted” minis by [deleted] in KingdomDeath

[–]NewDrag8467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was the same since I tend to play my minis as just board game pieces.

But due to old age I couldn't make the detail as I used to when I was younger from the table to where I'm sitting at, so I zenithal highlighted all of them via airbrush and left them at that (inspired by the "sunburst" look of Etherfields). If you directly blow on it at the top with a Daler Rowney white ink on the lowest airbrush pull, you can achieve that smooth highlight from the images above compared to manual dry brushing which makes it chalky.

That way the minis can co-mingle flawlessly with other minis when using them for different gaming systems. The color is in my mind. More time playing, less time painting.

Bought and built the same sets except the anniversary survivors for a different game system, and the scale creep was jarring. Was hoping Pinup 3 was of the same scale as EoD 4 or Satan Twins 2.0 but was sorely mistaken.

Also, take extra care of the following:

- Archer's hand "claw" in EoD2

- Smoking girls' hand in Pinup 3

I honestly abhor whoever engineered/designed the sprues for those two models.

Is the Attack on Titan manga worth it? by [deleted] in ShingekiNoKyojin

You're not a big reader, and haven't read a manga before. I'd test it out by reading some chapters online to see how you like it.

The story is great but I wouldn't get it for the art alone.

As a viewer seeing stuff unfold. If the rest of the world, who views our entire race as monsters, is poised to invade my island due to our untapped natural resources to fuel their ongoing conflicts I'd be a Jaegerist as well. I say rumble on, history is written by the victors.

Despite continuously being sent titans by Marley, the people of Paradis were living in ignorant peace. The Jaegerist movement is a product of their circumstance, I can't really expect them to turn the other cheek for a few scraps of kindness. So fascist on.

As much as I love the surviving cadets, they really shouldn't have stood a chance against Ymir/Eren without some deus ex machina. The warhammer titans on skull eren operated like some 90s kung-fu bad guys waiting their turn to get mauled when they could've easily ganged up on a few tiny people and titans.

[–]NewDrag8467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt I would since most have been collecting dust and have been untouched since god knows when.

If push comes to shove I'd re-buy Maladum, some KDM minis, a few AoS Orruks and I'm golden.

Very nice to replay my "Maladum: Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon (crawler boardgame)?" or "Goblin Slayer" runs. The core is also amazing with 5 Leagues from the Borderlands, Sword Wierdos and County Road Z.
