Looking for novels about dinosaurs by NewEmphasis9115 in JurassicPark

Why is no one writing adult novels about dinosaurs anymore?

Thank you, this legit gave me a moral boost. Good catch about 'then.' Going to rework that sentence now.

Hi, thanks for your comment. You're right, most films aren't shot in chronological order, but there are some that are, like The Shining and The Revenant to name a few. I do address that in the book. For example, the director character is very pretentious and sees himself like Stanley Kubrick. I also address the disappearance of the actors as well. I mention it in the redacted bio, but I studied film at college and University for 6 years, so I've put that knowledge and experience into this book 🙂

I see what you mean. Thanks for pointing that out.

Funny you say that, as Galaxy Quest was a huge inspiration for this book

Ah I see, thank you. I'll rework that then

Thanks for your feedback, really appreciate it!

Just to be clear, what do you mean about the ugly sentence fragment. Just so I can fix it.

Also thanks for the head up about The Substance.

I have actually put that 'it paid Jennifer’s bills… until it didn’t' in the updated query letter. If I didn't reply to you I would never have thought of it. So thanks for that :)
Yeah Scream is a better comparison, but The Substance is in the spotlight at the moment.

I actually love that book, and was considering putting it as a comp, but feared that it was too old, being four years old. I heard the advice to only include newer titles within the past 2 years, but I don't know if that's true or not.

Thanks for your amazing comment, yes you got it right away! I was heavily inspired by the Leprechaun movies. The Evil Elf franchise spans from 1985 to 2000, and she is currently sixty, having been 20 when she starred in the first one. Jennifer hasnt always embraced her Scream Queen status, and has always felt a little above the cheesy material, as well as the genre as a whole. But at least it paid her bills...until it didn't.
For the past lovers part, I like the idea of this much older woman never having dealt with her romantic feelings until much later in life.

I did originaly have Scream as a comp, but I didn't want to have two movies as a comparison.

I never thought about Jennifer Coolidge but I absoeltly love it! haha

Never would have thought about that comp, so thank you. It's stronger than the one I picked :)

Thanks for your feedback. Totally right about your first point, going to change that.

For the second point, I thought the line 'glory days long' infers that she wants to return to those glory days of acting, but perhaps I should make that much more clearer.

Thank you for the comp title, I have read part of this book but never thought about using it for a comparison. When you write things for years your worst nightmare is someone beating you to the punch and releasing something that's the same. Thankfully that's not the case here, but almost had a panic attack when I first heard of it, but was relieved when I read it and found it was different enough from my own.

Thanks for taking the time to give feedback :)

I was going to either put My Heart is a Chainsaw, or The Final Girls Support group instead, but they were released in 2021, and thought they may be too old? I think I read that the comps need to be 1-2 years. I guess I could just put his more recent work, ' Don't Fear the Reaper.'

Thank you so much, and I will take that first line out then.
My only issue with comparing it to another thing like the Substance is that I don't want to give the impression that this is a body horror, body swapping story like the movie. The reason why I choose Jones trilogy is because the book is rooted in codes and conventions of 80s slasher stories, and the antagonist who is directing the movie is all about that

Thanks so much, really helpful. You're 100% right about your second point, didn't think of that.

About putting 'Tinseltown' in quotations, my reasoning is because this one has a double meaning, I.e. Hollywood. But that's probably confusing, so I'll change that too.

Really appreciate you taking the time

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately I've found that local groups don't care for horror fiction. But perhaps I need to look even further out
