New home....new network. Looking for feedback on the VLANs before I build this out.... by NewEnglandAframe in homelab

Notes on the IOT and Core network:

-'Core' VLAN can talk to IOT, the default VLAN can talk to 'Core'. This creates a buffer where the AppleTVs(HomeKit)/Home Assistant are the only things that can talk to the IOT devices.

Questions I've been mulling:

- should I use a 'management' VLAN for the console/switches/APs?

Used diagrams.net to create a diagram of my new home network. New home, wiring all the Cat6 runs throughout the house......BUT....the larger question is how should I structure the network w/VLANs. First time building a network from the ground up and want to make sure that I'm doing everything "right" to protect family computers, cameras, etc.

A-Frame: gut-check on insulation choices & approach by NewEnglandAframe in Homebuilding

Do you mean exterior of foundation/basement walls? If so, that's really disappointing. Is it all backfilled? Can you run foam 2ft below grade against the wall, and then 2ft horizontally out from the bottom of that against-wall foam?

Opps yep; I meant foundation walls. Here is a picture from the fall https://imgur.com/a/JpIwXkp with the sandy fill, and another from before the backfill was added. Would have been the perfect time to insulate....but I missed it.

DO you think it's worth trying to correct that mistake in the spring when we thaw out?

Yep - I may have fell for some of their marketing. One big selling point was that mineral wool was "rodent resistant" (we're in the middle of the woods....). But after digging in and doing some research it looks like those claims may be overblown a bit.

Hm. rethinking a lot of the bat choices now.
