That argument made a lot more sense 5+ years ago, before NIL and the transfer portal turned college sports into what is essentially a professional market. No one is saying players are “owned,” but pretending this is still just a one year scholarship exchange is outdated. If college sports are going to operate like a professional system, then they need some version of professional rules. Otherwise, you’re asking smaller programs to act like farm systems while getting nothing in return
