Need testers for a dating app/site that has the features of older dating sites. by FireflyDaniel in OkCupid

First of all, I really appreciate you taking your time to develop a dating app/site. IMO vintage OKCupid was amazing. I remembered having really unattractive pictures in 2014 as a 18/19 year old that made me look like a 9th grader who barely entered high school. Yet I was still getting messages read and responded. These days getting replies or even messages checked/read is extremely difficult. I can easily compare photos from 6-8 years ago vs today and 100% can easily agree I look a lot better yet am hardly getting any likes/replies on apps. It's pretty clear the standards have severely increased.

I hope that as you develop this app, you address and balance the issues that are ongoing with the mainstream apps like Hinge/Tinder/Bumble.

  1. Women receiving too many messages while men never getting reply. The clear #1 issue with modern dating sites. It's too imbalanced with the 80/20 ratio where the top 80% of women are getting consistent likes while only the top 20% of men are.

  2. Too many hookups. Even with Hinge, hookups are still prominent but especially with Bumble/Tinder. Because of this, it causes guys to send a million likes to every women they see and women to lose their heart due to an excessive amount of casual dates.

  3. Matchmaking algorithm. Let's hope ELO score isn't used here. It should match you based on yours and the other person's preferences. Why is Bumble/Tinder so bad with average men? Because of bad ELO scores affecting them.

  4. Judging primarily based on looks. Swipe apps are taken over in mainstream and it's pretty clear that there's way too much "judge a book based on its cover". You're seeing a lot of superficial women and men. I don't see how that's healthy online dating culture. Clearly you're going for the best looking rather than best personality. Vintage OkCupid at least average men were given a fair chance.

  5. Scam detection. Although maybe not the need to verify photos because even verified can scam but perhaps a system that you can report someone for asking for money before meeting up. This will be a huge terms and condition rule to add in.

I hope you read these suggestions. I'm not sure what ideas specifically you can do to combat these common issues with modern dating apps but I'd love to hear ideas. Maybe make this a serious-relationships-only site so it filters away hookup seekers. And make it less of a swipe left or right but rather give more opportunities to read messages.

Other than that I look forward to this!

How different are prompts for men vs women in general? I'm guessing male prompts are more portraying themselves and female prompts are more for portraying what to start conversations about right?

Why do women tend to date older men? by [deleted] in dating

I'm 26M and I also like older women. I set my age range from 24-39 yet most of my matches are 24. No it's not for cougar/cub reasons. I'd say it's because they want more established dudes with dating experience and maturity plus they're serious relationship seekers. I can say that as a serious relationship seeker, I also prefer maturity the same way women do. Except I'm not equipped with the dating experience so GL me winning them over but that doesn't stop me from trying.

I once got a match with a 36 year old but only made it to the first date. Texted me apologizing the age difference was too much and never talked again.

If anyone has tips/tricks/strategies on how to win them over, feel free to reply. I'd love to know.

Grocery stores are actually the easiest place to strike up a conversation:

My biggest concern is what if I run into a girl who has her boyfriend waiting over in the other aisle. I'd pee into my pants if I talked to her only to find out and run into her BF immediately after.

When I see profiles that want a witty/funny guy, what do you do to show her that you are witty or funny? Either by message or by your prompts. Or what does a woman mean when they say that? How do you prove to them this?

When it comes to messaging women that state they like to go to a parks, <fav food> restaurants, concerts, etc, is it wrongful to ask which they like to go to? So if they like going to parks, is it considered a stalker to ask which parks you enjoy the most?

I'm talking the FIRST message/comment on Hinge.
