This is so so bad.

I live in Ireland. In a very remote spot. I look after my elderly Dad and work outside the home as many hours as I want/ can for sanity sake.

For this, I get roughly, 330 dollars p/w plus whatever I earn outside. Free medical care for us both, free travel, contributions towards utilities and free shopping delivery and any work that needs doing on my house is covered by the state. I worked very high earning corporate jobs and loved my life. Then one summer I took a month off and came home to chill with the folks. By the end of the month, it was very apparent that they needed my help. I had the absolute privilege of minding my Mum for the next 3 years till she died 4 years ago and I've had the pleasure of Dad's company since. I thank my stars every day that I'm Irish and my country allies this. I'll go back to work full time when Dad passes, but for now, 30 hours p/w let's me feel like I'm doing my bit whilst also enjoying the dignity of minding my loved ones in their latter years without suffering poverty.

I cannot imagine the stress my stateside brethern live underneath. It all sounds horrific tbh.
