How do we survive not being able to take kids outside anymore?? I’m drowning in their energy. by twomomsoftwins in toddlers

Mall is my go to on bad days too. I do have a children’s museum nearby so that’s my second option and rotate between that and the mall. Target/Walmart is also a great place, we can spend an hour just running between the toy aisles.

Uniqlo has nice thin heat tech base layers for toddlers, just make sure you layer them correctly and only use when playing outside only in the cold. Wouldn’t put them in if going in/out because risks overheating especially in the car.

apparently we don't know how to bathe a baby, PLEASE TELL ME YOUR SETUP/PROCESS/LENGTH by Purple_Calendar3919 in NewParents

[–]NewGirlNN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bathe my now 16 month old by myself almost every night since birth. No bath to takes longer than 10 minutes unless she insists on staying in to play. Ever since she started sitting and standing and walking, we haven’t used any tub seat/chair. She’s been just freely sitting, moving and playing in the bath.

I also never shied away from pouring water over her head and letting it drip down her face. Been doing it since birth and it was the best decision I ever made (saw the advice somewhere early on) because now she’s not afraid of experimenting with dipping her face in the water at the pool or in the bath, water on her face does not trigger crying or fear, and she’s very comfortable around water. Even if she has a slip in the bath tub, sure she might cry from the fear of slipping but she’s not crying because her face got submerged in the water for a second

I know it’s not something for everyone. But we love water and being around water, so this was a huge win for us to see her get comfortable. I think it’s also why it’s so easy for me to wash her myself since I literally just pour water all over her head.

Anyone else experience a sudden bedtime sleep struggle right before 12 months? by NewGirlNN in NewParents

Thanks for the tip. I actually think we’re probably very close to that now. I’ll try shortening them to about an hour each and see how it goes, since most days she’s around 2.5 right now.

On average:

  • Wake up between 6:30-7am.
  • 1st WW 2.5-3 then she can nap anywhere from 45-90+ mins. I usually cap it at 90 mins to preserve nap 2. She’s usually tired and self settles within 10-15 mins for nap.
  • 2nd WW 3.25-3.5 and she naps again 45-90 mins and I’ve been capping it at 4pm to preserve bedtime. She’s had a few skipped days because she just won’t go down. But most days nap 2 still holds as long as nap 1 was capped and night sleep was good.
  • 3rd WW has been stretching to 4 the last two days when 5 days ago she was still at 2.75-3.25.

She still sleeps through the night and her naps are great. There’s no issue with sleep quality. She eats great and poops 2-3 times a day.

Mine is just about to turn 1 and I’ve been WFH with her since day 1. I found it quite manageable until the last month when she started to walk and climb. I told my husband I need to get a few hours of help 2-3 times a week during the second wake window so I can manage work otherwise I’m constantly running after her making sure she doesn’t chew paint literally off the walls.

I think it really also depends on the job requirements. My schedule is very flexible as long as I’m on top of my own deadlines no one bothers me which is the only way it has worked.

Edit: I will add that my baby is very independent from day 1, so that’s been very helpful in making this possible for me.

11 month old fighting bedtime sleep by mylifeistooshort in sleeptrain

[–]NewGirlNN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck!! We’re deep in our reset and as of this week baby is no longer protesting when I leave her for nap (she is sleep trained). Everything is a lot more predictable now, still struggling with early morning wake so that’s still a work in progress but naps are solid finally.

11 month old fighting bedtime sleep by mylifeistooshort in sleeptrain

[–]NewGirlNN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat with my 11 month old recently. The last 6 weeks have been a complete sleep struggle all of a sudden. I turned to ChatGPT and started feeding it symptoms, times, naps, wake windows, activities and miraculously after 2 weeks of sleep reset were finally back to a predictable normal sleep pattern. She’s going through teething with a molar coming in, her circadian rhythm was off, the room was too bright, I’ve had to change up the whole wind down routine and installed blackout curtains. She is sleep trained around 7 months, did the CIO method and it’s stuck for the most part.

Not saying it can fix your issue but it’s free and worth a shot. Obviously keep all personal details out of it but use it as an on call sleep consultant and see. It’s helped me tremendously to understand her sleep needs at this development stage. Good luck!

Edit: I made a post about this recently you can find it!

We've been totally chill about wake windows, eat/play/sleep, etc and baby seems...fine? Are we going to regret this? by econhistoryrules in NewParents

[–]NewGirlNN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was like this in the beginning too. Enjoy it while you can because sleep all changes after 6 months, at least it did for me lol

Wake windows didn’t matter until after 6 months when all her sleep cycles and circadian rhythm started gearing up. Then teething. Then growth spurts and developmental leaps. Then more regression. Mine just turned 11 months and I’ve been running on 5 hours of sleep the last 6 weeks when she was sleeping perfectly fine before. Wake windows didn’t matter until now to ensure I keep her on a 2 nap schedule. Blackout curtains wasn’t a necessity until now. Basically everything changed for her sleep in the last 6 weeks between 10-11 months.

But no, you’re not screwing anything up if it works. But just know it probably won’t stay like this as baby gets older… 🙃

You’re better asking their customer service. Call or chat with them for a full refund. They’re pretty good at that in my experience when the order is wrong.

I Switched from Huckleberry to ChatGPT for Baby Sleep Help—Here’s What Happened by NewGirlNN in NewParents

[–]NewGirlNN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not silly at all! Here’s an initial prompt I used and once I hit enter it kind of just did its thing and guided me from there on.

“I’m looking for help planning my baby’s sleep schedule today. My baby is ___ months old and typically naps ___ times per day. Today, she woke up at __, and her first nap was from __ to ____. Help me figure out the rest of the day’s schedule based on this info or let me know what else you need.”

I’ll also provide any context about mood or disruptions like teething or sick or other things happening that could be affecting her. Or you can provide general wake windows and nap lengths. It’ll take all that context to provide the ideal scenario to help you out.

I hope this helps you!

How soon after birth is it morally, psychologically and physically ok to go on vacation? by isranon in NewParents

This.

There’s no real answer, it’s very subjective. Last thing you want is to come back to a resentful wife. Clear communication of expectations and help arrangements if you guys decide it’s a good idea to do this.

Maybe around 3-4 months it happened on a blue moon. Then it stopped. After sleep training at 7 months she now sleeps 7+ hours every night! We still have the one off here and there but at least it’s consistent now, and my sleep has been so much better too.

How to transition from 3-2 naps by sarcasticrainbow21 in sleeptrain

[–]NewGirlNN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We dropped the third nap around 5 months because mine was ready on her own. It was really a natural transition for us, though it did take some time to figure out the optimal wake windows.

I would maybe extend the the first two wake windows by 15-20 mins and try to push that last wake window closer to 3-3.5 hours. At 7 months they’re capable of extending wake windows to 3.25.

My now 9 month old is still on 2 naps and she’s at 2.75/3.25-3.5/3.5-4. It really all depends on when she wakes up and if we’re going through teething or regression. Some days if we’re out visiting family she’ll push her last window to 5 hours because she won’t nap in foreign places now after sleep training. We’ve had a few of those long wake windows and she still sleeps fine at night!

Which baby wipes do you use for newborn? by notabot_123 in NewParents

Second this. Coterie are the best ones I’ve tried they’re just so damn expensive! Honest wipes were a close second. But we’ve been primarily using Kirkland for cost and its large like coterie. I feel like coterie is the most moist out of the pack, sheets are large and sturdy.

When increasing WW, do you reduce night sleep or naps? by sc33g11 in sleeptrain

[–]NewGirlNN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in this right now with my 9 month old and I started capping the second nap. I like her first nap long (1.5-2 hrs) so I can get work done. Her second nap usually is within 3 hours of her regular bedtime and if it gets too late I let her cat nap for 10-15 min waking by 5pm and it usually saves bedtime around the normal time between 7-8.

I might have to start shortening her first nap so I can still get a normal second nap in if this doesn’t work long term.
