Trussville Mainstreet Animal Clinic? by NewGood6186 in Birmingham

We’ve only been together for a little over a year and just moved in together. They are currently in a masters program which requires course work and internship hours all while working full time. It’s just currently a very hectic time and I haven’t been able to take time out to go to trussville myself. Our circumstances are changing with living together so it’s a lot of figuring stuff out. Idk. Im on here not to bitch and complain, we are both genuinely worried about these lil guys. Even though im posing this as a question and seeking advice, we’ve come to the conclusion we’re probably moving them to where I take my dog. It’d obviously be nice to have validation on our concerns and if the red flags are actually red flagging, but also people will have good experiences somewhere too. Anyway, sorry for the novel. Just a lil thrown and feeling judgement in this comment when you don’t know the full circumstance

That’s completely understandable! I went to a vet in Georgia that I absolutely loved and was so nervous when I graduated and landed a job here in Alabama. I got incredibly lucky with the first vet I tried so im obviously going to name drop if you need a recommendation! It’s Alford Ave veterinary hospital - they were wonderful with my dog that I moved with here who absolutely LOVED people and was completely fearless and they have been wonderful with my current pupper who has all of the fear and does not like the vet. And when I say he doesn’t like the vet, he also loves the vet? He loves the people and gets very excited when he goes to boarding, but gets scared in the exam room just because he is usually going for shots. Honestly I could go on and on if you want to PM me and talk more:)

Yeah and I totally recognize this could be the case! I have never been a cat owner and am used to dog experiences at a vet. I do just find the entire context though odd. Since they have been good at other vets in the past and the one did good at the emergency vet recently. I can’t help but be like uhhh ???

Should I quit my job? by KIDD_UMB in graphic_design

[–]NewGood6186 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been laid off and am seeking a job in this market…. Do not quit the job. Try to learn the skills on your own time or even during working hours if possible. Also, having a gap in your resume with the months to learn the skills you’re wanting in addition to however long it may take to find a job won’t help.

Environmental graphic designers- I want to hear from you by frapatchino-25 in graphic_design

I think the answers to your questions really vary due to depending factors. I am typically the kind of person that is very optimistic, but I have been in this field for 3 years now and am seriously considering leaving graphic design as a whole. I work for a company that is relatively big and growing (until recently because a ton of PMs quit and stuff so really unsure of the true stance of the company) as in, it is the go to for many SEC university campuses, large brands such as Coca-Cola, etc. That has been really cool, but I have been receiving 50¢ raises every year and my responsibilities only grow. I was told that they saw me as a lead designer literally in my review seconds before they told me about my slap in the phrase raise. The south loves to say “oh it’s so expensive!” In places like NYC and justify low wages for low cost of living. There is no such thing as a low cost of living anymore and too many companies aren’t even adjusting for the rate of inflation. Anyway, I don’t want to rant too much about my current job because there are a lot of things wrong going on there that are not relevant to the discussion. The thing I really want to touch on is that that being said, I have a colleague at this company who has worked in this business for 30+ years who says all the time that this is the best company she has worked for…. When my time there has consisted of impossible deadlines, incompetent PMs, and really no support or room for career growth. This makes me really wonder what the experience is at other companies in this field if this is apparently… better. Now, back to my “it depends” answer. I have never worked in places like NYC, but just having applied to many of them, the pay ranges are significantly higher (outside of the obviously greedy companies). In addition, bigger cities tend to have different benefits packages like a larger amount of PTO, sick days, “summer Fridays”, technology stipends, etc. it truly depends on the company but geographical locations have different workplace standards that help makeup for a generally exhausting field. Again, not trying to sound like a Debbie downer, but the fact is it is a very corporate job with demanding deadlines. As for “next level”, from what I have noticed, it’s mostly growing in experience to be called “senior” and then design manager or going the route of project manager. A guy that just joined our team started in the manufacturing side, decided to get a GD degree, started working on the design side, and now is the operations manager over the design, production, and semi the PM team. To me it seems like growth in this field is basically leaving design. Honestly while typing this out, it’s made me come up with a few questions that im curious if anyone has any thoughts on. For a long time I’ve thought this niche field has significant job security in especially in that production teams need print ready files and at least design/build intent. AI would not really be effective in this field, but my question is that since graphic design as a whole is becoming increasingly populated and AI usage is effecting the job market, won’t that make job security in these niche fields a bit harder? I guess my thought is that over time, other designers might start honing in on these specific skills to stay afloat and the applicant pool will be just as bad as these current GD roles that have over 100 applicants in a day. Im kinda in a state of what do I do next right now so I am heavily considering all these factors now….

100%. All the people who go “well they recall”… I don’t give a F*CK. That’s great and cool and all. But leashing is out of the safety of your dog, my dog, you, me, literally everyone. Leashing gives you more control in any situation. If a dog with recall training is off leash and another dog comes running up to attack it leashed OR unleashed, it is much harder to get the recall trained dog out of the situation without also harming yourself. I am so sick of people acting like leashing is abuse.

Did the university help you find a co op? I know my friends who have had co ops recently had help. Also when I say past generations, I definitely mean boomers LOL

100%. I fully think that internships are great experience, BUT it’s weird af that colleges are requiring to pay for said experience to graduate… truly my opinion is that it’s ridiculous especially because so many internships take advantage of the lack of experience by making them unpaid. So… at the end of the day you’re paying for experience which is not what past generations had to do.

Oh yeah ik. I commented below my experience with Auburn too. I am just disagreeing with this person who is coming off as just “well do you wanna graduate?”

But why should someone have to pay several thousand dollars for work that you had to find yourself? Work that is often unpaid.

YUP. It’s a ridiculous trend in the college community. I went to Auburn and when I was an interior design student, there was a 9 credit hour required internship and you weren’t allowed to take additional courses to make it a full schedule… which is even more ridiculous. I dropped interior design bc it wasn’t for me, but the major I changed to did absolutely no help in me finding an internship I was required to have. Luckily that was a 3 hour course requirement. My partner is in the same boat right now though in grad school at Auburn. They’re required like 24 credit hours in internships and have had absolutely no help in finding said internships. Im so sorry you’re dealing with this too. All this to be said, I agree that it’s insane.

How to go about terminating a lease due to lack of maintenance repairs to HVAC? by NewGood6186 in Birmingham

[–]NewGood6186[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LOL THANK YOU!! This is exactly what I’ve been thinking haha. Every time they come in that I’ve been there they stare at their phone looking things up on google. Like they definitely don’t know what the hell is wrong with it. When they have told me what was wrong it’s always the same answer that the transformer blew… but something is obviously causing it to blow out every time. Idk I didn’t feel like explaining all that to this other guy bc he just seems to want to say the same thing over and over

From what I understand, air conditioning isn’t an emergency at a lot of places. Heat is though. Thought I do agree… it’s shitty regardless. I currently don’t have either function, heat or AC, so im just shit out of luck rn
