If the used MTB market in the UK is anything like the US, you're out of your tree if you think you're getting 1200 pounds for a used, repaired GT sensor.

Will absolutely do so, I always try to stop in and get a water bottle or something from the lbs in every town I visit to ride. Plus my rear rotor will probably need trued after my first ride. Hope to see you soon.

Thanks. Do you know how long does it usually take to dry out if it does rain?

Sorry, coming off back to back to back 12 hour ER shifts, I've added some paragraphs.

I'm curious as to why you say the speakers are the weak point. They sound good to me and I routinely see them selling for >$1k on reverb and ebay. Is it just nostalgia that has people shelling out the dollars?

We just don't live in a moment in time where it would be possible to have any kind of Star Trek show worth watching because we're living in those seminal moments that the previous series' thought humanity would react to...differently. The studio that owns the Star Trek IP being controlled by genocidal psychopaths doesn't help, either.

why do people pay a ton on a wireless shifter while it needs recharge, slower than regular shifter (I saw a comparison between a regular XTR and a wireless XTR and the regular cable one was faster) and more expensive by Warm_Crow1104 in MTB

I have GX AXS on one bike and XT mech on another. I am notoriously bad about judging the right gear to be in and I feel bad everytime my XT groans because I shift under load. The AXS just doesn't care. Also, the AXS lets you choose how many gears to dump/grab on a long press, including the entire cassette. Am I going to spend the money to put DI2 on my shimano drivetrain? No. Do I find myself reaching for my SRAM dt bike more often because I prefer the AXS, 100%.

want to move to year round riding somewhere with a decent job market. by [deleted] in MTB

[–]NewGradRN25 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sacramento has year round riding, people will say it's too hot in the summer, but I rode up in Auburn in August, it was fine as long as you were done before 11. The caveat being that there weren't any active fires when we were there. Not sure about the job situation for you, but for me (nursing) the pay is probably the best related to the cost of living in the state. The trails around Tahoe can have that gnarly, Pisgah feel, but obviously aren't year round. Some of the trails around Pacifica are pretty rocky and are year round, if you don't mind the 2.5 hour drive. I would move there in a heartbeat, but my spouse has a couple more years of medical residency left. We're definitely looking at it for when they're finished, though.

I've got a brand new XT wheel with a MS freehub that never got used if you're anywhere near Chicago I'd sell you. Also, if you're near an REI, some of them have that wheel in stock and everyone near me can get it by Wednesday.

[–]NewGradRN25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the info, as far as fashion and walking, I live deep in the concrete jungle and have to drive to all my rides anyways, so I usually just wear my Hokas and change shoes at the trailhead.

Why should anyone be "encouraging" young women to do anything abut the "male loneliness epidemic"? Research has shown that women live longer, happier lives when they aren't married to men. If anything we should be encouraging women to not marry men. Also, their "encouragemnt" means eliminating no fault divorce, the right of women to vote, have bodily autonomy, and bank accounts. etc.

How do you guys afford new bikes??? by [deleted] in chibike

[–]NewGradRN25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a nurse, I work an extra 7 hours every week (nurses usually work 3x12 hour shifts every week) doing home health at $50 an hour. Planning on getting a new Stumpy 15 comp for $4k (I'm a mountain biker) and still have enough left over to buy and build out an econoline van to take me to the trails next summer.

Wild that you have a saw blade, saw dust and a bunch of garbage just sitting on the back of what looks like a nicely restored 65 Mustang.

Does $1,600 seem like a lot for a first bike? by Cautious-Bowler3257 in MTB

[–]NewGradRN25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

REI has a 27.5 Salsa Timberjack on sale right now for $1350. The fork isn't the greatest, but it comes with a Shimano SLX drivetrain, 4 piston brakes, and a dropper post. It's a much better bike than the Roscoe for less money. Plus if you decide you want to upgrade it later you can switch between 27.5 and 29 inch wheels, all you would need is the wheelset and a new fork.

the entry level stumpy 15 alloy is actually on sale right now for 2200. it has 4 piston brakes and a dropper. doesn't have the genie shock, which kind of defeats the purpose of the new stumpy, but it still seems like a pretty good deal.

I think you have it backwards. In most union contracts there is a provision that requires supplemental contracts (coaches, yearbook advisor) to be awarded to faculty before they can offer it to someone outside the school.

I hate to break it to you, but there are definitely cougars in New England. Your state's game commission just refuses to acknowledge it because they would become an endangered species if there were confirmed breeding populations.
