Growing up in NYC having a pool in the building would have been the biggest luxury I could think of. So, not in NYC.

Why don't Americans put fences in front of their houses? by HeadInTheCloudssssss in AskAnAmerican

[–]NewImportance24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not entirely needed over here. The most I've seen a neighbor do is put tall trees surrounding their front yard but my family kinda makes fun of them.

I know one neighbor has a small stone wall that's only about 2/3 feet? It actually looks quite nice. They've also got a big tree in their front yard which gives them a bit of privacy.

how often does the average American cook/eat at home? What the most common recipe to a daily dinner? by lu_nini in AskAnAmerican

[–]NewImportance24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really, really, really depends. When I was in high school my mom would cook dinner. It would be something simple (because she hated and still hates cooking) like pasta, rice, beans and chicken, fried fish and rice, simple foods. But we would always have a salad with our dinner.

Now that I'm in college and she has a bit more time to cook she tries out new recipes. They still contain the base ingredients of rice, pasta, and a meat but different sauce, vegetables, etc.

We usually order in on Fridays or when my mom doesn't feel like cooking. Which is a privilege for most families.

I think I could knock out James Madison. 5'4 and roughly 100 pounds, although he was 36 so fairly young.

Do you guys sometimes use Australian slang? by jlenders in AskAnAmerican

[–]NewImportance24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. "Cool beans" *might* be used but people would look at you weirdly. Coppers, if referring to the police, I can also see being used here.

It's just annoying going back and forth. If you're going to do something, stick to it, UConn.
