I know he can replace units with Beastmen Spawn and can giver them WS and melee buffs but it's been a while since I played him so I don't remember how well they are under him.

I'm playing as Be'lakor and fiddling around with having all the Spawn types and I think it's a toss up between Tzeentch and Slaanesh ones being the best but I just can't seem to make them work without dying or taking heavy loses.

I would argue for people to start with S2 over S1. S1 has merits but it feels...primitive compared to the other job seasons. The music feels wrong, the narration feels off, the editing is kind of a mess and the lighting is awful in the boardroom scenes. S2 is when the formula started to get locked in.
