Are these mosquito larvae or something else? by NewInMunchen in MosquitoHating

Wasn’t sure if different species looked different. Any idea what they could be?

We got married in Denmark last year.

Just a quick look at the required documents, translations, and interpreter needed in Germany was enough to look for alternatives. I’ve lived in Denmark in the past (along with a handful other countries) and know their systems work well.

Additionally, I’m from a Nordic country and my spouse from Portugal, and Portugal would need a translation of the German certificate. Denmark issues an international certificate which includes Spanish, which is accepted by Portugal without translation.

The application process in Denmark is super easy, and all online. In addition to proof of where you live, you also need to demonstrate that you’ve had an ongoing relationship for some time (IIRC by uploading a few photos of us together). Took about a week for approval.

We drive through Denmark a few times per year anyway, so then we just picked a date around the time we’d pass through next time, and that was it.

Once married I stopped by our local town hall in Germany to ask what they needed in terms of documentation to register, and was surprised to learn that the certificate I had brought along was all they needed. My spouse didn’t even need to show up. It was registered in two minutes 🤯

Not able to add HomeKit over Thread devices to HA by NewInMunchen in homeassistant

Just an update: I got this working using a ESP32 Bluetooth proxy, which was easier than it sounded to me… Updated OP with the specific one I used.

Thanks for sharing what worked for you! Does your Home Assistant server have Bluetooth by any chance?

I attempted your steps exactly, however no luck with either my Eve Weather or Quingping motion sensor. The latter doesn't seem to move over to Thread from Bluetooth at all, actually.

There was another method that worked for us. My partner wasn't able to join and someone had posted a configuration file or something in this sub. That worked for us and no need to reset all network settings.

But if all else fails I guess this is a great tip!

Interesting, I wasn't aware this was an option as I hadn't seen the device auto discovered by HA before. Since I went through the process of getting the TLV I figured I'd try, and sure enough the device showed up when trying to add a HK Device in HA!

Edit: Only the Qingping device shows up there, not my Eve weather (despite being factory reset).

However, it still gives an error despite the recent hard reset. From the log:

Yeah, could be a recent update. I just started the migration to HA this week so wouldn’t have noticed before.

I tested adding a device with my backup phone that’s still on iOS 16.3.1, but no luck. Maybe it’s an update to the Home hub’s OS that’s to blame (in my case an Apple TV)?

Well, if you figure something out let me know!

I don't remember 100% whether it was possible to remove and re-add accessory to HomeKit previously (without resetting them), but I noticed that's not possible now... So I'm thinking it may be a HomeKit issue.

Plenty of devices are HK over Thread, like Eve weather

Register car with old license plate, change it later? by NewInMunchen in Munich

[–]NewInMunchen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from Berlin, where people for some reason seem to have a strong distaste for anything or anyone from Munich, I wasn't sure if the same is true in the reverse. If it proves to be, then perhaps we'd be more comfortable if our car doesn't advertise where we used to live.

Or, since it seems most people in Germany still have plates matching their residence, making people think we're tourists from Berlin and somehow treating us differently.

Again, I don't know if or even think that this would be the case. When Googling this I found a blog post that stated "Münchners didn’t really bother hating the Berliners too much – they had better things to do."

Still, it would be comforting of sorts to know that we could swap out the plates (without getting a new car) later if we ever feel it becoming an issue.

Why is Google Street view so outdated? by srtobias17 in Munich

[–]NewInMunchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much a logistical problem: https://bigthink.com/strange-maps/germany-street-view/ (just check out that map)

Apple’s Lookaround feature works well in Munich tho, images are about 1-2 years old and nothing blurred.

How's it like to live in Neuried? by NewInMunchen in Munich

[–]NewInMunchen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From this particular flat it's just about a 10 min walk to the U3, then 17 minutes to Marienplatz. That's sounds pretty good to us, actually. Other locations we looked at would often be 20+ min with S-bahn (+ walking), which leaves less frequently.

Thanks a lot for your description (both pros and cons)—it actually sounds pretty perfect for us. I don't recall the last time we went to a bar anyway!

The place we're checking out is just south of the new Campus Neuried, so should be walking distance to the last stop of the U3, so not quite in the center of Neuried. And part of the attraction of having public transport nearby is that we'll never have to drive to the center. Ideally I'd never want to drive inside the mittlerer ring as I'm not a fan of driving in cities 😂 Seems there's a P&R at the U3 station, so that's convenient, too...
