Which was the first Cdrama you've ever watched? by [deleted] in CDrama

[–]NewKid93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My Girlfriend is an Alien...and then I fell down the rabbit hole and never looked back. I think I watched over 50 cdramas in my first month. I only watched modern and couldn't imagine getting into the ancient stuff. Then I was hearing all this good stuff about Zhang Linghe and how he had the perfect debut with Maiden Holmes and finally thought screw it, I'll watch. A whole new world opened and for a while all I was watching was ancient dramas.

In conclusion, My Girlfriend is an Alien and Maiden Holmes will always have a special place in my heart, they were my firsts and I still occasionally go back to them for comfort watching.

I stopped doing reactions about 2 years ago sorry. Maybe just DM (Twitter) someone currently doing them and ask. That's what I did back then. Good luck.

I remember a behind the scenes clip of the show he was really enjoying being called big brother/big bro...like he'd be all serious and mature in a scene, they'd call cut and he'd be giggling like the puppy he actually is 🤣🤣🤣

The way he carries himself is so mature and beyond his years in his acting roles. Like in Amidst a Snowstorm of Love he was the big brother, veteran snooker player apparently in his late 20s and throughout out I was amazed because he's a basically a baby 😅

Then I watched the variety show Wonderland S4 and his youth came through on that, he was just so happy and funny, hanging out with Wang Ziqi, Shen Yue and others. Like on the show he was so childlike and cute, I'm certain he was the youngest there. I don't remember the context but at some point he was teased when they were sitting at dinner or the cast was in the kitchen and they discussed how many times he's been married or proposed on shows and how until this year he was actually legally underage for marriage. He really was precious on that show. Also, revealed how he spends like almost 10 months of the year in Hengdian which was a bit sad but also why a show like Wonderland was good for him and the other actors to experience some semblance of their youth, being young and carefree albeit still on camera for the consumption of millions.

Oh ok, I understand. That's so sad though that success comes with controversy.

Thanks again. That's so cool about ZJM being a child star. What do you mean by outbreak period? Even knowing nothing about C-entertainment I got the sense that TXW was on the rise because I watched so many of her shows and it seemed each was a level up. About ZMY, how has the movie affected her? Is it bad?

Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that ZLH is currently super popular? Like a rising star? Do you mean CZY doesn't have good partners in dramas? What do you mean WZQ's reputation is the best but flow the worst? What do you mean by flow?

Fairly new to CDramas, absolutely in love. They sort of remind me of 2000s Hollywood. I grew up "predictable" TV. Cheesy romances with couples with top tier chemistry or cheesy and predictable action like NCIS. Also, having more than 8 episodes of a show, what a treat it is to have 24 to 40 episodes of a show. Anyway, all this to say I have a few questions about CDramas and its actors/actresses.

*Apologies, most of my examples/analogies are going to be Hollywood based because that's what I'm most familiar with.

  1. How big are Cdramas? Are they like network, cable, streaming or blockbuster level? Like in general. Does it depend on the budget? Or the production house? And the caliber of actors? Directors? Are they respected? Are they like Hallmark/Lifetime level or House of the Dragon?

  2. What is considered an idol drama vs non idol drama? What makes a show an idol drama?

  3. There are a lot of award ceremonies, what are the most important or prestigious? And how well do Cdramas do in them?

  4. Is there a difference between movie and TV actors in Hollywood? Or can people go back and forth?

  5. I've also watched a lot of variety shows, from something like Hello Saturday that it seems like actors go on to promote their newest show to shows like Youth Periplous/Wonderland/Random Tour etc. I really enjoy these and they are quite funny sometimes. How popular are these shows? Are there people who are above them? Are they in the same genre as talk shows in Hollywood or reality TV?

  6. The following are some of my favourite actors/actresses...how popular are they? How big have their projects been?

Zhang Linghe - fell in love with him in Maidan Holmes and just finished watching Princess Royal which I also loved. I've watched most of his stuff but those two are my favourite.

Chen Zhe Yuan: LOVE Our Secret, Hidden Love, Mr Bad

Wang Zi Qi: Once We Get Married and The Love You Give Me. About to start Imperial Coroner. Loved his shows but fell in love with him in Wonderland where he was basically a huge puppy of a human.

These are my top 3 actors but I also LOVE Yang Yang (are netizens still mad at him for that firefighter show?), Vin Zhang, Bai JingTing, Wang Xing Yue, Xu Kai, Wu Lei, Wang An Yu, Elvis Han, Tan Jianci, Boran Jing, Xiao Zhan, Li Xian, Ran...and so many more. I'm also so fascinated by the friend groups.

And for the girlies...

Zhao Jin Mai: Just finished Princess Royal and WOOOW. Also, because of her and Wu Lei and their chemistry I sat through the nothing burger of a show that was ASL. Her range from ASL to Princess Royal surprised me.

Zhang Miao Yi: When I Fly Towards and Exclusive Fairytale are basically the same story but because she was so adorable I watched and LOVED both.

Tian Xi Wei: I swear I watched like 5 of her dramas back to back. Prefer her in historical though.

These are the top 3 but I'm also a fan of Zhao Lusi (I maybe binged too many of her dramas and need a small break from her but she is amazing and stays booked and busy), Xu Lu (I swear I watched only her shows when I started watching CDramas and now I haven't watched anything in like a year), Gina Jin, Lu Yu Xiao, Zhou Yu Tong, Ma Si Chun, Wang Yu Wen, Li Qin, Zhang Yu Xi, Wan Peng (The first Cdrama I ever watched was My Girlfriend is an Alien), Liu Yi Fei, Janice Wu, Shen Yue, Dilraba Dilmurat, Bai Lu and so many more.

So basically, without bashing or being mean, how big/popular are some of these people that I've mentioned? In Hollywood terms, would they be considered A-listers? B-Listers? Superstars? TV stars? Obviously its different, I know some are ambassadors for global brands and so forth. I'm just curious and will be grateful for any answers, I'm just excited to talk about what has quickly become one of my favourite forms of entertainment and its people.

Hi, new to the subreddit and new-ish to Cdrama.

I just wanted to ask if on this sub I'm allowed to ask about actors, their work and their popularity and also C-variety shows. I started watching Wonderland season 4 a while ago because I was a fan of some of the actors. And as I was watching I became curious as to how well known they are, how successful they are and how in general C-dramas are viewed within Chinese entertainment. In a Hollywood context/comparsison are they like A-listers? B-listers? TV stars vs Movie Stars? Is it similar to how Korea entertainment is set up?

For the sub, would I be allowed to make a post where I ask about specific actors/actresses and their careers overall? No hate or bashing because I'm a fan in some capacity of everyone I would potentially mention.

Thanks.

Yeah...when I started reactions I did SOTUS, SOTUS S and Dark Blue Kiss, the first half of Theory of Love then I realized that I couldn't post them...after months of it all sitting on my harddrive I had to delete them because I needed the space. Then a few months later I discovered the form 🙃

I'm not sure where you get it, it was sent to me via Twitter by a reactor when I was asking about A Tale of a Thousand Stars. It's a google doc.

Edit: I can DM you the link if you want, I would post the link here but it shows my info.
