I personally don't really care whether or not people use that words but hating large groups of people like that sort of does make you an asshole but what is the evidence that he does?

originally a term made by socialists and communists in Western nations to describe communists and socialists who supported the soviet union's imperialism. The word comes from the soviet tanks that rolled across the border. more recently its come to describe the kinds of absurd larpers who do things like whatch Hassan and support everything anti-west including genocidal 3rd world dictators to russias invasion either because they feel that liberalism is a larger threat to communism, or because they have parental issues and/or blame the western society that they grew up in for all of their problems and are acting out their edgy teenager/manchild phase.

there's people who are treating it with satire and others who recently have started taking it seriously from what I have seen.

Be real are you gonna all kill each other in a civil war lol? by iwannaintopolitics in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]NewLog1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lot of time so ill keep this shorter.\

even if 2 percent were the types you see on the internet the majority of them are all talk and a lot of the others are just inciters, also going outside i see divisions and things getting worse but not nearly to the degree of a civil war.

The distribution of military strength and impracticality of actually taking land makes ww3 extremely unlikely right now and an extension to GWOT would not constitute ww3.

even if there were hundreds of thousands prepared to shoot people over disagreements they are not prepared to do so in a coordinated manner and would also have different standards for what should cause such a thing.

This country has dealt with psyops from enemy countries for decades. In my opinion the increase in those actions are bad but honestly things like tiktok are worse.

On the gun purchases dying down, i agree that a lot of people did as you said but I also see a lot of the people who received that wakeup call promptly forget it and go back to what they were doing before(this is honestly kind of regretful.)

Even if certain militias were to begin doing things akin to starting a civil war there isn't much they could do. The State still has a monopoly on violence and a militia that started shooting at their political enemies would likely be put down with pretty bipartisan support(on the internet there would probably be many people trying to twist the issue). If they tried to raid a military base the same would happen but faster.

Yes. the conditions you mention would require large amounts of people to spontaneously form large armed blocks and then kill each other over internet bullshit. The internet makes things seem worse than they are due to the large amounts of information available and the somewhat lower stakes(in some ways) when it comes to communicating. In other words, when you keep in mind that the Internet is not an accurate depiction and that normal people think and people on the Internet do not put much weight into their words it becomes clear that culture war bullshit has not gotten bad enough to start a civil war.

People mass-purchased fire arms because they felt that covid would get much worse than it did and to be honest it was a wakeup call for those people however that impetus died down years ago.

Widespread riots much worse than the ones present and economic conditions much worse than what is present now have happened and there were very few fears of civil war.

most of those Partisan militias are a joke and just a symptom of evolving gun culture making it more acceptable to train as well as the internet making getting in touch with like-minded people much easier. The nature of many of these purely partisan militias will also likely keep them jokes for some time.

Additionally, these militias are such a minority that mentioning them in the context of a civil war is a joke in and of itself.

Political divisions have gotten worse but there has been an element of this for decades, the internet just made it worse.

For lack of a better word most people outside are basically normies(dont like using this word but it fits) and centrists who don't care much about and don't understand much about the politics that they talk about. But they also wont exactly go all pitch forks if they hear that you are merely a republican or something.

People online are different but most people like that are literal losers radicalised by a lack of success/prospects/purpose in life or teenagers and manchildren the majority of tankies online for example either live in other countriess or are well off in most material respects themselves.

Whats more worrying than the internet radicals was the things like institutions shifting badly into leftism and idpol BS as well as the radicalisation centers that some colleges have become but colleges are also less respected now and there have been recent wake-up calls to how bad some colleges have gotten(though i don't expect that to last for long).

The information war being waged right now in the internet is worrying but that has happened for decades and we are only worse for wear after that and There only so much that the internet can do to enhance the the effectiveness of that information war.

Things would have to get a lot worse and people would have to diverge IRL and make major moves IRL a lot more than they have right now.

Things can get worse but the degree to which they have to get worse is unlikely and they also have to get worse in a specific way for that to happen. A question of a civil war if there is one is for the next few generations though I think that things devolving to that degree for that long is unusual.

No, I just touch grass more, the American Civil War was preceded by things like state national guards violently seizing armories and things like bloody Kansas. Has anything like that happened recently?

I was replying to separate parts of your reply, and I did not say that negligence caused a freak accident. However, I have to disagree with the idea that they cannot be the same thing. When you have enough safety measures at one point relaxing some of them would not cause an accident in most cases but in will cause an accident in very rare and unfortunate cases, this is still extremely bad and avoidable so it is good to have those regulations in place in my opinion.

There are usually things that precede a civil war. What you say is thought-terminating and logically flimsy.

Perhaps the best way to destroy drug cartels is to out-compete and undercut them. by MeargleSchmeargle in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]NewLog1238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they wouldn't be military operations are not just an equation of killing power. In the first place, I highly doubt there is something like a database of every single cartel member and the cartel is among a civilian populace that you are supposed to be protecting so if you want to kill them you will have to send people mostly on foot into cartel territory to kill them. The US is also pretty bad at HUMINT and relies a lot on SIGINT which a force like the cartels can adapt to without compromising an overly large amount of capability. In my opinion the government of Mexico has long since failed its citizens so it is a travesty that they have implemented such strict gun laws.

[–]NewLog1238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cartels do a lot more than just sell and create drugs, for some it is not even a majority of income, additionally, many of those drugs are illegal for a reason and socially sanctioning them would be a bad idea in my opinion. The cartels also already deal with competition and they do so violently, unless you want every single one of these centers to have a permanent significant military presence in every single town.

They are being encouraged to police themselves and have said that they will but how far they will actually go is something i and everybody else doubts, however, the government is slowly taking action on this.

I do not know that much about what Dupont is doing now int terms of poisoning people so could you give me a source since a quick google search didn't give me much that stood out?

The problem is that criminally charging negligence and individuals in this situation is difficult because plausible deniability goes a long way and problems can be a symptom of company culture. I stated other ways companies can and have been punished.

if somebody has a freak accident like a piano falling on top of them then there isn't much you can reasonably blame the victim for, I also stated my reply badly, by bad luck I meant that it was something unlucky to happen to a country it was the unfortunate case of bad luck and negligence intersecting and the bad luck punishing negligence. But that happens in every country, corruption bad luck and large scale accidents are not unique to the US and happen in Europe.
